zjlm Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 Hi, can anyone help me identifying the following hotel:December 12 to December 17, 3.5 stars, Chelsea - MSG, $182, Fitness, Restaurant, Internet.I've tried looking on the list on this site and tried identifying it through a package deal.
slick_gd Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 This hotel has not been reported to the board, however, I notice that HOTWIRE mentions a tripadvisor traveler review rating of 4/5 based on 80+ review for this hotel. Referencing tripadvisor directly I see one hotel that matches the zone, amenities, and traveler rating: The New Yorker Hotel with a 4/5 rating on 104 reviews. Typically the traveler rating is within 20 reviews, but it looks like there have been many reviews in November, which could have been reported after HOTWIRE updated it's listings. The New Yorker is my guess. If you plan on reserving, help support this site by using this HOTWIRE link to start your purchase and let the board know the result.
zjlm Posted December 2, 2008 Author Report Posted December 2, 2008 Thanks - I'll just have to contact them to make sure that they have smoking rooms. Yes, I know it's a filthy habit ;-)If they do I will definitely use the HOTWIRE link you provided. This site is brilliant and people are helpful :)Edit: Ah well, smoke-free. Seems like a nice hotel though.
zjlm Posted December 4, 2008 Author Report Posted December 4, 2008 This one has me baffled:3*, Chelsea MSG December 12-17 at 149 a night. Boutique Hotel, breakfast, business, internet, golf and tennis nearby. No tripadvisor rating shown.Another mysterious one is a 4* hotel in the Empire State area with business center as the only amenity showing. No tripadvisor rating either. Anyone booked either of these hotels, who has any clue?
thereuare Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Neither of the above properties have been identified, and with you needing a smoking hotel, i would be hesistant to take a random guess.I may be able to find some properties which meet your needs, besides a hotel which allows smoking, what else do you require from this stay? What is your minimum star rating and maximum budget? (per nite before taxes and fees)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. zjlm Posted December 4, 2008 Author Report Posted December 4, 2008 Hi,Thank you so much :)Our minimum requirements - besides smoking room are:Prefereably located below 50th st. and preferably not in business/convention or similar districts - and in a safe area. Reasonable reviews and no more than $200/night.I do think I might have found one hotel - December 12-17, 3*, boutique, breakfast, pool, spa and business center - I think it must be Room-mate Grace. Do that sound right? Thanks - this is a great site :)
thereuare Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 The 3* above (i'm assuming it's in the (Times Square-Theater District)zone) is a match for the Room-mate Grace so that would be our best guess... and it gets pretty good reviews. Will this work for your plans? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. zjlm Posted December 5, 2008 Author Report Posted December 5, 2008 Yes it will, thank you :)The only problem now is that there seems to be a problem with hotwire - when I get to payment it says that there is a system error :-/Better try again later.
slick_gd Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Just a question...Did you start your purchase by using this site's HOTWIRE link?I have seen that exact comment from many other people on the board lately, do you recall the exact error message given?
zjlm Posted December 5, 2008 Author Report Posted December 5, 2008 I've gotten a couple of different error messages and yeah, I used the link on this site.Another message is that my card isn't listed with my bank, which it is - just talked with my bank. This is another error message I get:The credit card number or security code you entered does not match what is on file with your card's issuing bank. Your card has not been charged. Please verify that you entered your credit card number and security code correctly.
thereuare Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 If/when this happens again (or if you can duplicate it again) please send us a PM with of the error message (often there is an error code associated with the message) as well as the URL. Assuming there is a HOTWIRE session id in the URL, i'll pass it along to see if it can be determined where the breakdown occurs to have them troubleshoot it.While there have been an increased number of reports of errors ocurring and check-out, it's still only a handful of cases, but with the above info perhaps we can trackdown the issue, which i'm assuming is a technical problem on HOTWIRE's end. zjlm Posted December 5, 2008 Author Report Posted December 5, 2008 Will do - Now I just have to identify another hotel as the other one is gone now :-/
thereuare Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 ...the other one is gone now :-/Which may have something to do with the error message you received. :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
zjlm Posted December 6, 2008 Author Report Posted December 6, 2008 Which may have something to do with the error message you received. :)Ahh - that's how it works :)If anyone can point me to a hotel on hotwire December 12-17, which allows smoking and is in an interesting area (nice local diners, delis and friendly dive bars are always a plus) please do so. I have a hard time picking a hotel. Preferably no more than $ 200 a night (preferably less), unless the hotel is really great.
thereuare Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 How about the Grand Hyatt for $209/nite (a 4* hotel with hotel-direct rates of $400+ for your dates above) which has one floor of smoking rooms... or the Beekman Tower for $169/nite which has 'a few' smoking rooms. With both, no guarantee that you will be able to get one of these, but at least you know they're not completely non-smoking properties. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. zjlm Posted December 7, 2008 Author Report Posted December 7, 2008 Hmmm - seems I was a bit slow - but thanks anyway :)I'll keep an eye out and maybe post something here for confirmation :)
thereuare Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Hmmm - seems I was a bit slow - but thanks anyway :)What do you mean... i still see both of the hotels i referenced above available?? :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
zjlm Posted March 26, 2009 Author Report Posted March 26, 2009 Ended up going for a hotel that we had booked previously. Had some problems with payment on HOTWIRE because I had two cards registered on my account.
