nsheikh80 Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 I've been reading all the various primers for Priceline on the internet and I think I get a general feel for how it works. However, one thing I have noticed is that they all recommend getting some advice from this forum before using Priceline for the first time....so here I am :-)I will be travelling to Vienna from 30th December and returning on 3rd Jan. For what it's worth, I will be flying from the UK.I would like a hotel that is quite central. From my research I have found that people have been getting good deals at the Marriott in Vienna. They have been paying around 100 US Dollars, which is quite acceptable for me.I would appreciate any help at all.
Rhine-and-Roses Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 I'm not sure how many $100 bids for the Marriot are recent. Type "Vienna" into the Quick Search box on the top of each Better Bidding page. There you can see hotel prices reported for the past few years. The dates may indicate trends. The dollar is up in the past couple of months, so you might get a better price than others from 2008.We used Priceline in May for Vienna but did not get the kind of deal you mentioned. We ended up at the Renaissance Riding School. It was not super central, but it was almost as close as many of the "central" hotels, and worked well for us, being on both bus and street car lines. It was also on the regular train line (NOT express)- just a couple of blocks from the hotel, no need to change trains. We loved staying there- the staff really wanted to make our stay pleasant. If you do end up at the Renaissance, we recommend upgrading to the club level- it pays for itself in breakfast alone, unless prices have changed.Good luck!
