Priceline Hotel: Vegas in late January

A bunch of us are thinking about going to Vegas in late January and we would like to use Priceline to get 4* or 5* hotel. My wife and I have been a number of times but have yet to use Priceline for Vegas so I may need some advice. Since we are going with some friends who haven't been, it would be nice to stay at one of the 5* hotels but we'd rather save a few bucks. I see there are a number of 4* hotels listed but is there any way of knowing if they are in the center of the Strip?

We are still working on the plans but it looks like we will be staying from Thursday, January 22nd to Monday, January 26th.

Any particular strategy we should look at?

Thanks,

Chris

Few general thoughts regarding Vegas...

With PRICELINE there is no way to tell if a hotel will be directly on the strip... both the North Stip and South Strip zone extend beyond the strip itself and there are hotel in each of these zones at the 4* and above rating which are slightly off-strip.

HOTWIRE may be a better option since you can often take an educated guess as to the property beforehand, and therefore have a good idea if the property will be on/off strip, and if on strip, just how centrally located it is.

As well, Vegas is one area where there are often hotel-direct deals which can rival PRICELINE and HOTWIRE, so don't exclude hotel direct bookings here either (we're an affiliate of both all the MGM Grand properties as well as a consildator, i4Vegas)

I'll also add that if possible you should try to avoid Thursay-Monday stays... rates in Vegas are often 2x-3x more expenisve on weekends than midweek stays. If you need to make a long weekend out of it (rather than staying Sun-Thur) then it's usually best to try Wed-Sun or Fri-Tues, so that if you're willing to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, you can take advantage of two consecutive weeknites at a low price and then staying someplace else for the 2 weekend nites... hard to do when the weekend nites are in the middle of the stay. Of course this is a general rule and conventions, and other events, can affect demannd to make the above scenario of weeknites being less expensive not hotel true.

Thanks for the heads up and the info.

The i4vegas link didn't work so if you could repost, I will have a look.

Just curious about the 4.5* and 5* star hotels that may be a little off the strip. Is one of them the Trump? Is it far or still fairly close? I've been to Vegas a number of times but not sure where they built the Trump. We'd likely have to go over the weekend so we expect to have to pay more then during the week.

I have seen a number of wins at the Palazzo recently. Are people getting lucky or would there be a good chance of staying here?

Thanks again.

The i4Vegas link seems to be working fine for me, if this link doesn't work send us a message with the error message (or what happens when you click the link) and we'll troubleshoot for you since it's local to your machine.

I understand the going for the weekend, but if possible you're usually better, if possible, going Wed-Sun or Fri-Tues rather than Thur-Mon, for the "split the stay" option mentioned above.

The Trump is one of the off the strip properties (the Westin is another)... most find it walkable but some consider it to be out of the way, so i suppose it has to do with how much you enjoy/don't enjoy walking, as well as what time of year (would be easier to walk in the winter (when the temp might be in the 70's) than in the summer (when the temp might be in the 120's)

No telling what your chances of receiving the Palazzo are... you may receive this property, or the Trump, or some other 5* hotel in the zone.
