Priceline Hotel: Bidding Assistance Request Vancouver (YVR Airport)

looking for some advice on hotels near YVR. i figure the hotels are pretty empty that time of year from my last stay at the same time let alone in this economy.

would be for two adults and my infant daughter (king or queen does not matter to us). would need a crib and also need parking so with many hotels charging additional for parking, i really do not even want to pay the current rate of $CDN128 plus tax and parking at the Delta Airport i have. plan to call the Hilton to see if they will match and throw in parking since we would like to be able to put the crib in a separate room etc. also, i have nothing to loose since my real fall back is to suck it up and stay with my brother....although not ideal, i am not paying anything other than current economy adusted price...if you know what i mean.

given the US$ to CDN$ right now, i would be willing to pay up to $70US a night. nothing less than a 3.5*. i would not plan to go up that high until perhaps a week before. do you think this even has a chance? do you think hotels have adjusted the price due to the exchange rate etc.?

any strategies would be appreciated. the airport area lists a 4* and i can only assume that is the Fairmount. although a nice hotel, i am not interested in staying there since, as noted, i will have a car and it would be a total pain with the same.

many thanks.

You're not going to be able to bid for a hotel with free (or low fee) parking... you'll have to expect some charge and adjust your bid accordingly.

Why don't you call the Hilton first to see if they'll match the price you have at the Delta Airport hotel as you'll then know your best alternative and can bid accordingly.

HOTWIRE has what appears to be the Delta Airport for ~$65/nite, which (haven't checked recent conversion rates) would be about a $50/nite discount to your current back-up plus the same charge for parking... this would appear to be inline with your current $70-max (plus parking) but not sure how high you're currently willing to bid.

To answer your other question(s), yes currency rates are taken into consideration as is the current demand hotel demand for these dates (which also includes the current economic conditions)

i already factored parking in at the extra cost. 65 comes in around 78 these days. that most certainly is better. i do plan to call the hilton first....added just checked TA and it does look like it is the Delta.

looks like the rate i have has gone down to 96 CDN in the last two weeks. sent note to the Hilton re price match. will keep you update.

Hilton matched my initial rate and threw in parking too (worth 12 a night). room is a one BD. jr. suite with King bed. i think i will stick with this unless the Hilton comes up on HOTWIRE. so $CDN147 all in a night is OK for me. i see sutton place on HOTWIRE for less but not sure they will have any parking with the explosion yesterday.
