Girth Inertia Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 I used your PRICELINE link a little earlier this morning and submitted a $50 bid. It's come back a couple times now> Any suggestions?
thereuare Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! It's come back a couple times nowCan you explain what you mean by this?? Girth Inertia Posted November 26, 2008 Author Report Posted November 26, 2008 I originally submitted an offer of $50 and selected the South strip option. This offer was not accepted. So I followed the tips and kept bidding while selecting areas that I knew didn't have the type of hotels I was looking for just so I could keep bidding. Now I'm up to an $85 per night bid and I have selected every section with the exception of Henderson, Fremont, and Boulder. I don't get it. Priceline sent me an email stating that someone just picked up a 4* in the same area I was looking to stay for $75 when I had just bid $85 and it wasn't accepted. What am I doing wrong?
thereuare Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Are you willing to stay in a zone other than the South Strip zone... if you're bidding all other zone there is a chance that you could end up in a zone other than the South Strip. Are you using the technique in Priceline Re-Bidding Explained to determine your re-bid zones? It's highly recommend that you confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding again. What is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable 4* property? What is your maximum bid for this stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Girth Inertia Posted November 26, 2008 Author Report Posted November 26, 2008 Absolutely, and yes I have utilized the recommended Re-Bidding technique. However, it's to the point that I have to wait 24hrs because if I select any other zones I will surely get something I really don't want.I'm up to $85 for a 4* property and really didn't want to spend more than the original $50-60. I see that Priceline has the Palms for $99 a night for the dates that I am looking for. As a result of the prices being much higher than I anticipated, I had to limit myself to a 2 day stay instead of my original 3 day stay. At this point, it looks like that might be the best deal going for a 4* in the area I would like to be in. Here is what it looks like on Priceline. We're sorry, but we can't accept your offer of $80 for a hotel room in the LasVegas, NV area. Your credit card has not been charged for Request Number ***-***-***You should consider a price above your original offer of $80 per night to increaseyour chances of getting a hotel room in the Las Vegas, NV area. Please verify the following information to continue with your request. Please change at least one part of your original request. To try your request again, change one or more items with a check. Can you select additional areas where you can stay? thereuare Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 It's highly recommend that you confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding again.I'm assuming that you don't want to stay in Summerlin and that zone is NOT a re-bid zones... if you include it in your bidding you could end up in that zone.Which zones are you willing to accept (please list by PRICELINE name) and your absolute maximum bid (don't list at $60 if you are really willing to go up to $85) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. On a separate note, HOTWIRE seems to offer the Flamingo for less than $85/nite (an amount you have already bid) and while not as nice as The Palms, it's a solid property (imo) and gives you a great location center strip, would this work for your needs? It comes down to your preference of what you want for this trip and your plans... if you intend to stay at the hotel you sleep in then the Palms would be nice, but if you intend to 'casino hop' and walk the strip, cab rides to/from the Palms needs to be considered within your budget. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Girth Inertia Posted March 12, 2010 Author Report Posted March 12, 2010 I ended up finding a deal on Hotels.com for $85 a night at the Palms for that particular weekend. When we arrived I tried the $20 trick (slipping a folded bill between my ID and the credit card I had reserved the room with) and it actually worked! We ended up in the new tower in a corner suite and with a handful of comps and passes.

nchristo Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 is there a thread that discusses the '$20 trick'?? I'd love to read it. Does this actually have a history of working? I think it is awesome and hilarious. How did you keep a straight face doing that??
Girth Inertia Posted March 12, 2010 Author Report Posted March 12, 2010 You know I’m not sure whether or not there’s a thread on the trick or not. When it comes to Vegas I’ve been greasing people (restaurant hostesses, club bouncers, promoters) for years so I’m here to tell you that when it works, it works well. When it doesn’t, it can truly be much more embarrassing and humiliating than you can imagine. I tried the $20 trick at Mandalay Bay last year and the clerk at the front desk picked up the $20 looked at it and as she handed it back to me said “Here you go sir, you’ve dropped your TWENTY dollar bill and NO we are completely booked and DO NOT have any complementary upgrades at this time”. Yeah… didn’t work so well that time. I encourage everyone to try it but you’d better have some tough skin just in case it all goes sideways. :)
