luvmaui Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 There is one 5* resort showing up for the Makena Wailea area of Maui. It's bound to be the Grand Wailea, right? Do any other 5* ever show up on Hotwire? $483. still seems a bit high but is a savings over rack rate. Is it likely to go down between now and late June (my travel dates) or should I pounce on it?Thanks.

slick_gd Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 It looks like you may be missing a couple amenities. The icons are limited to a maximum of 8 but there could be more. To see the full list click 'continue' on the hotel from the main search results page, then directly underneath the icons click 'see all amenities'.
luvmaui Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 Oops! Also: Tennis, spa facilities, and children's activity programs are the last three after golf.
slick_gd Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 With the addition of those amenities, this hotel looks to be the Grand Wailea Hotel Resort & Spa. That's my guess. If you plan on reserving, help support this site by using this HOTWIRE link to start your purchase and let the board know the result.
luvmaui Posted November 29, 2008 Author Report Posted November 29, 2008 That's what it was and I reserved it! Now it has dropped even more for those dates. Sometimes it pays to bide your time, but I was anxious to get my trip planning underway. Thanks, all, for the help.

luvmaui Posted January 7, 2009 Author Report Posted January 7, 2009 Just an update. Received word from Hotwire that Grand Wailea has been downgraded to a 4.5* star property, and they have given me $25. (Hotdollars) per night in compensation. This makes me feel a little better as the GW website is now showing a AAA rate less that what I paid. I've learned sometimes it pays not to book so early.
thereuare Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 Thanks for the update.Note that while booking early in this instance may not have paid off for you... sometimes booking early is the best bet.See our thoughts regarding 'booking early or late' in the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.
