Snow1978 Posted November 19, 2008 Report Posted November 19, 2008 Hi,I'm so envy of all those who booked NYC hotels for so cheap! I've been looking for a hotel from 12/2-12/3 (one night only) in Chelsea or MSQ area. My price range is around $110. I've placed several bids on pricline and didn't win it, and the prices that I saw from hotwire is always above $180!! Is there anyway that I can look for a cheaper hotel in that area? Also, does anyone know what is going on with NYC in that week? It seems hotel prices are quite high in that week as compared to the following few weeks approaching x'mas. Thanks for your help!

Snow1978 Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 I've been bidding min 3* hotels...
thereuare Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Based upon current rates i think you're going to have a raise your maximum bid a little. However, is there a reason you need to be in the Chelsea or MSG zones (i assume you're bidding both of these)... NYC is very big, but also fairly compact, with easy, and relatively inexpenisive mass transportation, that for most users it's fairly easy to adapt their needs to a neighboring zone. Adding additional zones would also increase the number of potential hotels which could accept your bid. Would this be a possibility for your needs this stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and we'll advise accordingly. Snow1978 Posted November 21, 2008 Author Report Posted November 21, 2008 No, my preference of hotel locations is not restricted only to Chelsea/MSG area, I'm interested in MTE, MTW, MTC, SOHO, TS as well. But they seem more expensive. Please advise in how I can book a cheaper hotel. Thankx.
thereuare Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 To clarify and confirm, you have not yet bid these other zones (you've only bid the Chelsea and MSG zones?) and you're seeking a 3* hotel with a maximum bid of $110?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Pls advise.
thereuare Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 We have seen lower than expected prices in NYC recently, but $110 is usually not enough for a 3* hotel in this zone (especially during the time of year you're bidding). If you want to give it a try using expanded areas:At the 3* level you have one re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Start with our link to PRICELINESelect 3* Chelsea, MSG, MTE, and MTW...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTC, Soho, TS...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTC, MSG, MTE, and MTW...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Chelsea, Soho, TS...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTC, MSG, MTE, MTW, Chelsea, Soho, TS...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Snow1978 Posted December 9, 2008 Author Report Posted December 9, 2008 Hi,Sorry for my late reply. I used your strategy and bid at a higher price. I was accepted at $145 for Tudor Hotel UN for one night on Dec 2.We stayed at the hotel already, and it was better than what I expected. The staffs there were very nice, the hotel room (with one queen bed) was very clean. The two things that I disliked were it was a fairly long walk (10 mins) to the Grand Central station and there was a surcharge for internet usage (which is free for most hotels/motels in NYC).Thanks again for your help.
thereuare Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Thank you for sharing your winning bid with the board... glad you enjoyed your stay.Just to clarify, most NYC hotels do charge for internet access, especially at the 3.5* rating and higher. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
