AngelaHalo Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 As a frequent browser of this site, I reserved through your link to HOTWIRE!I have to admit that after making the reservation and checking out hotel reviews on the internet, I am a bit nervous about my stay here. It doesn't sound like it's in the best area -- I will be by myself and coming back from Madison Square Garden late at night, which is why I was looking only in the MSG/Chelsea area. I reserved feeling pretty confident that it would be the Hampton Inn MSG, though I know there are never any guarantees and if one wants a specific hotel, HOTWIRE / PRICELINE are not the right options! Has anybody stayed here, have any words of reassurance ;-)?

thereuare Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 Thanks for the follow-up.During the day there shouldn't be any issue. At nite, depending upon your 'temperment' (and if you're used to large cities or more comfortable in a small town setting), some might feel a bit uneasy just due to the fact that you're in an unfamiliar city and there won't likely be too many people out on the streets in this immediate area late at nite.If you choose to walk it i'd walk along 34th St which is a major street (4 lanes/2 lanes each direction) so the street should be 'active' with cars and won't feel as desolate. However, if you're concerned it will only be about $5-6 for a cab and that would certainly be worth the peace of mind to not have to worry when you're on vacation. If it's a large event at MGS you can walk up to 8th ave where it may be easier to get a cab (if everyone leaving MSG is seeking one)Generally speaking NYC is a fairly safe city (it's been cleaned up with the Guiliani administration) but you need to take care and be aware of your surroundings, just as you should in any large city.Always feel free to ask for help and/or confirm the hotel that you think you may be receiving before your purchase.Enjoy your stay. AngelaHalo Posted November 18, 2008 Author Report Posted November 18, 2008 Thank you so much for your response!I've spent a fair amount of time in NYC -- I'm a freelance writer, hence this trip -- so do feel reasonably comfortable, but I appreciate the advice about which streets to walk, and as I'll be coming out later than the rest of the crowd, I will probably go the cab route for peace of mind. Thanks very much again!
