Smart Monkey Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 This is my first post after joining sometime ago. The story so far, I have booked my parents to go Boston for my mum's birthday in Nov. I am now trying to get some rooms for the trip through priceline. They want to stay in the back bay area for 4 nights (11/3 - 11/7), the rates I have at the moment are Area : Back BaySheraton $299Westin $349Marriott $369Hilton $259 (I know this a 3* in Priceline)The last night (11/7 - 11/8) they want to stay at the airport as they have an early morning flight. Rates areArea : LoganHyatt $199Hilton $209I know that South Boston, Chestnut Hill/Brookline and Medford/Sommerville are free rebid opportunities for me, b/c they top out at 2.5 stars. I have couple of questions:-Why are the hotel price so high?Could I have some ideas on strategy for get the rooms and what is the likely price I will have to pay?If I have missed any information please just ask. Thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding! and thanks for breaking your post-less streak!Rates are obviously based upon supply/demand factors. Besides Boston being a very expensive hotel city, there is a convention in town November 7th with 4000 attendees. This doesn't sound like very many for a city like Boston, but in scanning other events this is one of the larger ones. Not sure if this is the sole reason for the higher than usual rates, but it can certainly be a contributing factor. From the rates you supplied and your comments next to the Hilton i assume you are trying for a 4*? If so, this is how i would proceed:4* Back Bay/CopleyBid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $95.I'm not that confident of success at these levels, but since you have some time this is how i would start. If the above is rejected, please post back with your maximum bid amount. Please post the stay for the airport in a new thread and i will reply in that thread. This will make it easier to follow and allow for the pertinent information to be reflected in each thread's title once a hotel is won. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
