kpet Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 I need some of you pros out there to give me some advice for bidding for one of the busiest and highest times you can need a hotel in NYC!I as yet do not have a back-up reservation because I don't see any property that I really want to tentatively book for the price being asked. From what I have found thus far my first night, the 7th, is a decent price and then the remaining nights almost double.I don't really want to move hotels if possible. If I bid for the 8th and 9th and get a win, am I allowed to add a night on both ends of my stay or just one? I have added to the end of my stay before, but didn't know if you can do both.I would like to stay under $250, and I see there have been recent wins for $162 at the Hilton NY for 12/7, Intercontinental-The Barclay for $205 on 12/5-12/7, and The Millenium Broadway for $225 on 12/6-12/9.I would prefer to stay in a 4* in either Time Square-Theatre District, Midtown West, Midtown East, or Upper Midtown-Central Park South. I have stayed at the Marriott Marquis and Millenium Broadway on several occasions and hate that they have been down graded to 3.5*, along with the Sheraton Manhattan, which in my opinion is nowhere near the same category and not deserving of more than 3*. The only area I would consider going down to a 3.5* is Midtown West.I feel like I need to go ahead and bid rather than wait till closer, due to it being the Christmas season and prices only escalating with fewer properties to choose from. Any advice is welcome!
thereuare Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 If offered the opportunity to extend your stay (it isn't always offered) you can only add to the beginning or the end of your stay... not both.So is your first step to try for your complete stay in the MTE, MTW, TS, and CPS zones? (is there a reason to not include the ESB zone?)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. kpet Posted October 29, 2008 Author Report Posted October 29, 2008 I was afraid if offered to extend it would only be for one end or the other. As for not including the ESB zone, I really didn't want to stay that far south. I guess my first step would be to try for the complete stay. Do you think there is any chance of staying in my $250 budget for all 4 nights? My other thought was to maybe try for the 8-11th, see what I get, and then add on the 7th, hopefully cheaper at the same property since the Sunday night is considerably less than the other 3 nights.Thoughts and Strategy?? I will use the PRICELINE link on this site when I bid.
thereuare Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 Do you think there is any chance of staying in my $250 budget for all 4 nights? There is always a chance, but i'll call it "doubtful" but certainly worth trying. My other thought was to maybe try for the 8-11th, see what I get, and then add on the 7th, hopefully cheaper at the same property since the Sunday night is considerably less than the other 3 nights. If offered to extend your stay the additional nite would be at the same bid price as your previous purchase... if you intended to bid for the additional nite there would be a good chance that you'll receive a different hotel have to change properties during the course of your stay. Would this be acceptable? If you want to try for the complete stay first, you have FIVE re-bid zones at the 4* level. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Use our link to access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS and TS...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTW and TS...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS and MTE...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, and TS...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $190, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, and TS and re-bid zone4...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $210, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, and TS and re-bid zone5...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $220, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $225, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $230, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, and TS and re-bid zone4 and re-bid zone5...Bid $235, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $240, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $245, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $250Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. kpet Posted November 13, 2008 Author Report Posted November 13, 2008 4* NYC (Times Square-Theatre District) Renaissance New York, $22012/7/08-12/11/08Have been waiting to bid till a little closer to dates to see if due to the economy, prices might come down a little, in spite of this being a normally very busy and expensive time to be in NYC. My strategy paid off and I got my favorite hotel in NYC, and stayed under my budget, and didn't have to split my bid, either!I changed my bidding strategy a bit from what thereuare suggested because my daughter who is accompanying me only wanted to stay in Times Square or Midtown West. To follow is what I did:Selected 4* TS...Bid $140, rejected, added re-bid zone 1Bid $150, rejected, added re-bid zone 2Bid $160, rejected, added re-bid zone 3Bid $170, rejected, added re-bid zone 4Bid $180, rejected, added re-bid zone 5Bid $190, rejected, closed browser and used the link here to re-access PRICELINESelected 3.5* TS...Bid $140, rejected, added re-bid zone 1Bid $150, rejected, added re-bid zone 2Bid $160, rejected, added re-bid zone 3Bid $170, rejected, closed browser and used the link here to re-access PRICELINESelected 4* MW...Bid $140, rejected, added re-bid zone 1Bid $150, rejected, added re-bid zone 2Bid $160, rejected, added re-bid zone 3Bid $170, rejected, added re-bid zone 4Bid $180, rejected, added re-bid zone 5Bid $190, rejected, closed browser and used the link here to re-access PRICELINESelected 4* MW and TS...Bid $200, received a counter offer to raise my bid by $25, declined and added re-bid zone 1Bid $210, rejected, added re-bid zone 2Bid $215, rejected, added re-bid zone 3Bid $220, accepted...Renaissance New YorkSubtotal: $880.00Taxes/Fees: $161.14Total Charges: $1,041.14I was also offered to extend my stay, which I do not need to do.Thank you thereuare for all of your help. Once again this board has been a real asset as a resource for saving money! I am very pleased with my results, considering the lowest price I have seen the Renaissance going for during my dates is $499/night. Hopefully others can get lucky as well!
