Priceline Hotel: 5* - North/South Strip

After seeing the crazy prices on 5*'s over the past few weeks, I plugged in Thanksgiving weekend on a 5*, both sides of the strip.. started at $60, went up to $85. PL countered at $151, but I didn't bite.

Will probably re-bid once per week or so as we creep closer to turkey-day, to see if we can pull off a great deal. I remember getting Venetian for $99 a few years back, thought it'd never get better than that!

Don't know if it will hold true this year (given the slowdown in the economy) but i recall somebody posting a few years ago that while instint would lead you to believe that Vegas would be slow during Thanksgiving (with travelers busy visiting family) but it can often be a busy time with lots of nearby guests within driving distance (such as Los Angeles) use the holiday as an opportunity to get away for a long weekend.

In fact, after I posted, I found on Venetian's website a calendar of when their lowest promotional rates were effective:

and Thanksgiving weekend is not among them. It does point to good weekends to make lowball bids, as the dates Venetian is offering $119 rooms on it's own website would likely coincide with the dates it would be most likely to accept very low offers.

I am one of the people you mention who is in driving distance, just using the weekend as a quick vacation. In fact, if I can't find a killer deal on a great property, we'll probably just stay home. Still... hoping to see a repeat of 2001's hotel prices!
