2Adventure Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 I checked online to see that rooms were available for the 3.5 hotels listed. Hotwire has a 3.5 at $69.00. First bid 3.5 DTW for $45.00rebid add Taylor increase price to $46.00no luckI live 50 miles from DTW and hoped to have an overnight for a very early flight and be able to fly drive and leave my car there. I called the Embassey Suites and was told all the hotels allow this.
thereuare Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I called the Embassey Suites and was told all the hotels allow this.I would call again as i don't believe this to be the case... the Embassy Suites gives a voucher for a nearby private lot and they charge per day for the voucher. Other hotels may or may not have such an arrangement with a third party parking garage, but most will not likely allow you to leave your car there at no additional charge (assuming above you were refering to parking for free)Also, although there is less differentiation now that PRICELINE has instituted 3.5*, it's not a 'given' that the 3.5* HOTWIRE hotel being offered would be rated the same by PRICELINE (it may be, but you can't make that assumption... have you tried to ID the HOTWIRE property offered)Thanks for using our PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links. 2Adventure Posted October 23, 2008 Author Report Posted October 23, 2008 How do you ID a HOTWIRE hotel? I never left my car with a hotel before but since other people talked about it I thought it would be worth trying. Yes, I thought you could just leave it in the hotel lot for free, never heard anyone talk about a purchased voucher. I tried bidding again47.00 DTW 4 star failed48.00 DTW and Taylor 3.5 Star FailedI just looked through the board posts again with a calendar and noticed that the $45.00 winning bid was for a Saturday night and the $55.00 winning bid was for a Friday night. Since I am bidding for Thursday night the price is probably higher since the business traffic is still in town to fly home on Friday. Would you agree?I do not want to stay in any other area, I would rather stay home and drive.
thereuare Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Since I am bidding for Thursday night the price is probably higher since the business traffic is still in town to fly home on Friday. Would you agree?Generally speaking the above is true. Just using your date for example, the Embassy Suites is $169/nite for your nite... this coming Saturday it is $119.How high are you willing to pay to not have to drive the day of your flight? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. 2Adventure Posted October 23, 2008 Author Report Posted October 23, 2008 What bid do you think would get a 3.5 room tonight?
thereuare Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I don't know how much it will take, which is why we always suggest bidding strategies which cover a range of bids from low to high, but i do know that with your arrival tonite i wouldn't be increasing my bids by $1 at a time as you have been since you don't have much time.HOTWIRE has a 3.5* for $69 and a 3* for $63... i would determine if either of these are acceptable to you (would paying this much be worthwhile to you to not drive the day of flight), use that as your 'bid to beat' (or whatever amount you determine would make driving in the day before worthwhile), and we can suggest a strategy from there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
