mill4023 Posted July 19, 2004 Report Posted July 19, 2004 I started with $55 in San Diego Coastal or Mission Valley for a 4* and was rejected. Because I didn't mind staying at an economy hotel, I kept the price the same and lowered the star level. I went all the way down to a 2* level and still couldn't get anything accepted for $55 in Coastal or Mission Valley areas. Then I decided I'd see if I could get a 4* for a little more money. So I used the free rebid areas and did the following:4* for $59 - rejected4* for $65 - rejected4* for $71 - accepted at Hyatt Regency La JollaThat's a great deal considering the lowest price I could find on Expedia, Travelocity, etc. at the Hyatt La Jolla was $186/night. And the lowest price of any hotel in the San Diego Coastal or Mission Valley areas was $70/night at the Super 8 and Good Nite Inn.
thereuare Posted July 19, 2004 Report Posted July 19, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding!Thank you for sharing your win with the board. It has frequently been said that the best deals are often at the higher rated properties. Many of the fixed costs of housing a hotel guest are the same no matter what property you're at, so there is just more room to discount a $200 hotel room than there is to discount a $75 hotel room.Looks like this is a literal example of a "Four star hotel at a two star price"Enjoy your trip.
