Dbl-A Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 I found a 3.5 star hotel on Hotwire in Times Square Theater District for $372. The description says, "6.0 miles to La Guardia Airport (LGA), 10.6 miles to Newark Intl. (EWR), 13.6 miles to New York John F Kennedy Intl. (JFK)." Anyone know what hotel this could be? I need to accommodate 4 adults and used Hotwire because it allowed me to search for quad occupancy. Any other tips on searching for these requirements would be appreciated.Thanks.A
Dbl-A Posted October 13, 2008 Author Report Posted October 13, 2008 3* Midtown central -- $286The Hotwire description is, "5.7 miles to La Guardia Airport (LGA), 10.9 miles to Newark Intl. (EWR), 13.5 miles to New York John F Kennedy Intl. (JFK) Any help Identifying this hotel is greatly appreciated.Thanks.A
Hankshanker Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 I'm only guessing here, and thereuare should appear shortly, but I think that $286 is not a good deal at all for a Hotwire 3-star unless it's something particularly particular, in which case you're better off knowing what you're spending your money on in the first place if you're spending 4-star money for a 3-star accommodation.Your rate is very close to typical rack, which nobody here should have to pay. 3-stars can be had cheaply all the time, so why not hand-pick one for $300? Unless it's New Year's Eve or something crazy, Midtown is going for $200 or less at that level in betterbidding dollars all the time these days.(If you list the amenities, I think you'll get your answer.)
Dbl-A Posted October 13, 2008 Author Report Posted October 13, 2008 That was one of the cheaper rates given to me. I've used priceline before but I'm new to Hotwire. Is there a way to bid? I basically put in my dates and number of adults and it gave me the list of hotels. The hotel I mentioned above has a fitness center, pool, restaurants, and internet access. Thanks again for any help.A
slick_gd Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Based on the amenities you listed, this looks to be the Holiday Inn Midtown. That would be my best guess. To answer your other question, there is no bidding on HOTWIRE. You input the dates and number of people and HOTWIRE will give you one hotel for each star rating in each zone from what it has in it's availability. If you like what you see then you proceed to book at the price quoted by HOTWIRE.Since HOTWIRE gives you more information you usually wont get as great a deal as on PRICELINE but it offers you an insight as to which hotel you are going to get so you are not completely blind.Use this HOTWIRE or PRICELINE link to start your purchase and let the board know the result.
Dbl-A Posted October 13, 2008 Author Report Posted October 13, 2008 3.5* Times Square - $369That is the price I got for 4 adults on Hotwire. The description lists, "6.0 miles to La Guardia Airport (LGA), 10.6 miles to Newark Intl. (EWR), 13.6 miles to New York John F Kennedy Intl. (JFK)." The amenities are fitness center, restaurants, business center, and internet access. Thanks for the help.A
Dbl-A Posted October 14, 2008 Author Report Posted October 14, 2008 I have 4 adults but I notice that I can get much better deals of I search listing only two adults. I'm really only looking for 2 queen beds. Would it be rolling the dice to search using two adults or do most places have two double or queen beds?A
thereuare Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! In NYC there are a high percentage of rooms with only one bed in them and many of these rooms have no space available for a roll-a-way.The majority of hotels in NYC do charge extra for quad occupancy and many don't accomodate quad occupancy at all, so by searching for more than double occupancy it's common to see the rate go up and the number of options go down.To begin, what is the actual date(s) of your stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
