Hi,

Firstly, I'd like to say this site is awesome. I have never used PRICELINE before, but after what i've read here am definately willing to give it a go!

So (hopefully) staying in NYC from 22 Oct to 28 Oct. Was hoping to get a 3* or 4* in central mahattan - ideally in Midtown / Central Park South areas - I'm looking at zones 2, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10. But still quite flexible really - just want to be in manhattan. My preferred zones would be 2, 9 and 10.

Budget = as low as possible - think i've seen a hilton go for $140 somewhere on the board! Anywhere under $200 a night would be fantastic, but am willing to go a bit over, i'll have to see how it goes.

Basically was after some advice as to how to structure my bidding, as obviously time is starting to run out.

Thanks,

Kev

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please list the zones you're willing to accept by name (not by number)... PRICELINE could change the order listed at anytime, or zones can be added/removed/condensed, and the information provided would be incorrect.

Are you willing to bid more for a 4* vs. a 3* or are you looking for the least expensive 3* or better hotel for this stay? (also note that PRICELINE now has a 3.5* rating, but not sure how that fits in with your plans/needs for this stay)

Hi,

My preferred zones would be:

Central Park South

Midtown West

Times Square

But I would also be happy in

Chelsea

Empire State

Midtown East

However, I would also consider other areas of manhattan i.e. Downtown, UES, UWS, MSG, if it is likely to improve my chances.

Least expensive 3* or above would be ideal, as not planning on spending much time in the hotel! Do priceline search from the highest star level down, so as you get the best hotel possible for your money? I like the idea of 3.5* if the hotel quality increase is worth the price, so would be willing to start of bidding on them before dropping to 3* if theres no sucess.

I've read a bit about splitting my bid, i would be willing to do that if I was having no luck with the full 6 nights - so would massively appreciate your advice on the best way to split if I'm having no luck.

Cheers

Do you want to bid first for just the top three zones before including the other 3 zones OR did you want to include all six zones in your bidding?

Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

At the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)

Hi,

First of all, thanks for your advice Thereuare. I got the Hotel 57 (CPS) for $210 for the 22nd October to 28th October.

Bidding process - as you advised on the previous post, except the number of rebid zones had dropped from 4 to 3, so i adjusted my bidding accordingly, and started from $140.

As i wasn't having any luck at my original bidding level (and I saw on Hotwire that 3* hotels were going for well over what I was bidding for the same dates) I decided to up my budget. But as you can see - only by a bit!

Am really pleased with the result.

And of course I used your PRICELINE link to start my purchases. Thanks for all your help.

Congratulations on your win!

Glad to see that you were successful for not much more than your original budget and that you're happy with the results.

You're not too far from Ess-A-Bagel which is a location i often recommend for breakfast (Third Ave at 51st St) as they have one of the best bagels in the city and it makes for a good, and inexpensive, breakfast among the locals.

Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.

Enjoy your stay.
