Priceline Hotel: 5 nights in Paris

Hello,

I'm traveling for Paris this Sat for 5nights as a surprise to my wife for our anniversary.

Two questions with respect to that:

1) Where should we stay, target prices:$100-$150 (I believe a good 3stars or 4stars hotels). Nice area, where we can stroll and mingle at nights.

2) how should I bid in Priceline or buy via Hotwire.

I saw on hotwire the following (for 4stars hotels):

dates Eiffel Champs Elysse

11-12 $142 $133

12-16 none $209

12-12 $142 $133

13-16 none $209

13-14 $194 $209

It seems that if I choose several continuous 1 nights it is cheaper then straight for the whole period or couple of days together.

Is priceline/hotwire working at the end (on resolution when giving you an answer) on price-per-day basis or the total amount of the whole period ?

Thanks.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Few comments before getting started...

HOTWIRE typically gives the average rate for the nites of your stay. With PRICELINE, sometimes they will accept a bid based upon the average of the amount needed for each of your nites, but sometimes it requires a bid at least as high as the highest nite of the range. If there is a nite of your stay that is substantially higher than the other nites, it may be beneficial to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID (a good read as it goes into a deeper discussion of what is discussed immediately above)

In the dates range and prices you're seeing above, was the same hotel (based upon the amenities shown by HOTWIRE) offered on each of the date ranges you've listed? HOTWIRE will only show one hotel at each star level in each zone (the least expensive available)... so in using your example above when the lower rates are shown we'll call that Hotel-XYZ. When the higher rates are shown, it could be that Hotel-XYZ isn't available for one of the dates in that range and therefore a second, more expensive hotel, is offered. When posting dates to the board please do so in check-in/check-out format (so there would be no such date as 12-12)

Whether to use PRICELINE or HOTWIRE depends upon what is most important to you (lowest price or having a guess as to the property you may likely receive) and if you haven't already, you should read I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire, which explains the similarities and differences between the two services.

Feel free to ask any additional questions you may have regarding the above and let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.
