cando292 Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 I am looking for a 4* hotel in the NMA area for 10/16-10/20. My boyfriend and I are going for a much needed "get-away"! I've been researching the area and found that the NMA area is ideal for the shopping, restaurants and nightlife which is what we plan on doing alot of! We would like to spend less than $140/night, max. $100-$120 would be ideal, hopefully realistic?! Please help, as I am fairly new to the hotwire and priceline game. Worst case 4* in the Loop area. Are we bidding too soon/late??Thank you!!!!! :)
thereuare Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Welcome (officialy) to BetterBidding! If i understand correctl you'd rather bid up to your limit first in the NMA zone before trying for the Loop zone? (if this is not correct do not follow the strategy below, post back and we'll revise accordingly)At the 4* level you have three re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)I don't think the following will success, but i would start here and then hit your maximum bid tomorrow when you re-try again (just post back if/when you're rejected and we'll revise to try again in 24 hours)Select 4* NMA...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* NMA and re-bid zone2...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect* NMA and re-bid zone3...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* NMA and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone3...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $120Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. cando292 Posted October 2, 2008 Author Report Posted October 2, 2008 Thanks for the detailed help! But unfortunately no luck :) We are willing to add the 3.5* to the NMA as an option ... think we will have better luck with our price range? If we have to 3* as the last resort. If we want to be close to the shops/entertainment would the loop area be too far away? Thanks again!
AaronJB Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 I've lived in Chicago for nearly 30 years, and I could tell you that the Loop is not too far away from NMA (although it depends somewhat on where you are in the Loop.) However, I've read comments from many, many people who have stayed at the Swissotel (which is across the river from the start of the NMA area) and have said that the NMA area is "too far". This, despite the fact that it is literally a matter of a few blocks - walk 2 blocks West, walk over a bridge and there you are. It surprises me, but I suppose "too far" is different for different people. My issue with the Loop area is not as much its distance from the NMA area as the fact that, if you want to stay out later at night, much of the Loop can seem quiet or even desolate later at night. You could take a taxi back at night if you stay in the Loop, but that adds to the cost.Despite cooler temps, October is fairly busy in the city due to conventions/business traffic.
cando292 Posted October 2, 2008 Author Report Posted October 2, 2008 Thanks for the info, I'm really diggin' this site!!!!We concluded to stay in the NMA area, try for 3.5* first then 3*, max $100/night? Not too sure the realistic price range for this weekend... Should I try Hotwire as well??
thereuare Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 I don't think the following will success, but i would start here and then hit your maximum bid tomorrow when you re-try again (just post back if/when you're rejected and we'll revise to try again in 24 hours)As noted, i didn't expect the 4* bidding up to $120 to be successful but was worth a try... did you want to continue with 4* bidding up to your previously stated maximum bid of $140 before lowering your star rating to 3.5*... or do you prefer to try for the lower star rated hotel at a lower price?Did you want to consider adding the Loop zone to your 4* bidding before lowering your star rating? What may be the Hotel Allegro appears to be available for just $110/nite and is in the northern part of the Loop zone (so it's close to the NMA zone) and perhaps that is an option to consider as well?Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. cando292 Posted October 2, 2008 Author Report Posted October 2, 2008 Okay, we decided that we want to stay in the NMA area since that is where we will be at night hanging out!Is the 3.5* really that much of a better hotel than the 3*s?? If not, let's just move ahead with the 3*s. If the 3.5* is worth a try for a decent price, lets try it!!!
thereuare Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Is the 3.5* really that much of a better hotel than the 3*s??Some prefer the 3* rated properties... others would choose the 3.5*. It really comes down to your budget and what you look for from your hotel stays.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. cando292 Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 Let's move forward with the 3*s...
thereuare Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 $110 for a 3* property may be a stretch for these dates, but you have one re-bid zone at the 3* level and i would begin as follows:Select 3* NMA...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected wait 24 hours and re-try...Start with our PRICELINE link:Select 3* NMA...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
