nmerlet1 Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 HelloI'm searching for a double room in a 4 or 5* hotel (or 3* if nice and well located) for this week, from 2nd October to 5th October. I've never been to SF and don't know which zones are nice and which zones to avoid. Also I won't have a car in SF so I prefer sthg central or accessible easily by public transport. Can someone indicate me which prices and SF zones to bid? Thanks in advance for your help,Nicolas
thereuare Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!I'll comment that the USE, USW, Embarcadero and (new) SOMA-Moscone Center zones are the most and frequently bid. Followed by Fisherman's wharf (which has bus service and bus service to BART but no direct BART station nearby). That should give you a good start, and i would then deterimine what it is you would like to see, do, visit while in the city and determine if all or some of the zones above would be good for your needs.Once you decide which zone(s) you're willing to bid let us know your maximum bid (per nite before taxes and fees) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. nmerlet1 Posted September 30, 2008 Author Report Posted September 30, 2008 Thanks!I am indeed new to BetterBidding. But what an useful site it is!I am not sure yet what we will do in SF. We just made last minute travel arrangement to California. In SF, we will do "tourist" things (Alcatraz, ...) and shopping. So I think central location: USE, USW, Embarcadero and SOMA, I don't really mind. But Fisherman's Wharf comes after.I don't mind paying a little more than $100, but any saving will helps toward the rest of the journey (national parcs and Las Vegas) ;-)Thanks again for your help,Nicolas
Gallus50 Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I'd avoid Civic Center. It's a little scuzzy. Marina/Lombard Street is mostly a big, four-lane road with Motor Hotels. Affordable, but not central or charming. I'm not a fan of SOMA - it can be sketchy in areas and noisy at night. Fisherman's Wharf is fine is you want a touristy area, though it can seem inconvenient to get to other parts of town. (Cable car can be a pain to get onto - F Market might be better, iI think it stops near there.) USE and USW are pretty good choices for a variety of reasons. Good luck with bidding - it's a busy time of year in San Fran and NorCal. But people have been doing pretty well at the last minute....
nmerlet1 Posted September 30, 2008 Author Report Posted September 30, 2008 Thanks!I will make a first try tonight. Can someone tell me where to find the rebid ones for 3* and 3.5* in SF? I don't want to make a big mistake.I found that Civic Center has only hotels up to 2.5* and that South SF has only hotels up to 3*Is it correct?Nicolas
thereuare Posted October 1, 2008 Report Posted October 1, 2008 Re-bidding, and how to determine your re-bid zones, is explained here: Priceline Re-Bidding ExplainedI found that Civic Center has only hotels up to 2.5*This is not the case... the Civic Center has 3* properties. At the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones... at the 3* level only one re-bid zone. Use the following technique from Priceline Re-Bidding Explained to determine your re-bid zones:The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time. (NOTE: for most users Priceline has updated their interface making the above process easier... simply check a zone and note the highest star rating available within each zone, UNcheck that zone and checkmark the next zone, repeating the process)Using the above see if you can determine your re-bid zones at each star level (3 at the 3.5* level... one at the 3* level) and we'll confirm them for you OR if you are having trouble understanding the above we'll break it down further. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. nmerlet1 Posted October 1, 2008 Author Report Posted October 1, 2008 Thanks!I managed to grab the Grand Hyatt SF (4*, USE) for $125 a night from 10/2 to 10/5.A little more expensive than expected, but I am sure it is worth the price.Nicolas
