Priceline Hotel: Bidding Help for DT Chicago 10/25-10/28

We are going up to Chicago on 10/25 through 10/28 for an event and we are looking for a nice place to stay for the lowest price possible. We've used Priceline to score $40.00 - $50.00 4 star rooms in St. Louis, Kansas City, and Cincinnati. We figure this is a pretty unrealistic expectation for downtown Chicago. Where should we start bidding? Would $70.00 - $80.00 be out of the question? What area of downtown is best? We are arriving at Union Station via Amtrak so something closer to there might be ideal. Any advice would be appreciated!

Welcome (officially) to BetterBidding!

The NMA and Loop zones usually work out fine for the average visitor with an edge being given to the NMA zone. The Loop area gets quiet at nite while the NMA zone is more 'lively' and has restaurants and nightlife. However, the Loop zone is a 'moderate' walk to the NMA zone or a very inexpensive cab ride, so for the right price, the Loop zone works well for most too.

Let us know which zone(s) you're willing to bid and your maximum bid and we'll advise accordingly.

Assuming these wins were made within the last year it would be appreciated if you helped others by sharing your wins with the board :)

We will be coming into town on Amtrak and attending an event at the United Center so the Loop probably makes most sense, but the NMA zone would work as well. Using Priceline has spoiled me and turned me into a complete and total cheapskate! Ideally I'd like to spend less than 100.00 per night but I don't know how realistic that price is. Any suggestions?

I just want to avoid a nightmare hotel stay like the one I had last time I was in Chicago and stayed at the Congress Plaza.

I promise to post any future wins! :)

Based upon current rates i'm doubtful $100 will be enough for a 4* hotel for these dates.

If you want to give it a try, you have THREE re-bid zones when bidding 4* in Chicago. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* Loop and NMA...

Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $105

You can stop at $100 but i figured i'd post the extra $5 since i suspect you'll get to that point in the bidding strategy.

Any questions feel free to ask.

For the 4* you previously stated that your maximum bid was $100, but apparently bid as high as $150.

If you next want to try for a 3.5* hotel, what is your maximum bid?

What is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel for these dates? (use our BetterChecker to assist in your rate search)

Are you seeing the event at the United Center on one night only, or is it all 3 nights?

If you are seeing it one night and then seeing the city the other two, you could stay outside the city for the two nights. One expensive night downtown could be potentially evened out somewhat by staying in the cheaper burbs the other two nights. It would be a little tough in terms of commute, but I'm just throwing out another idea given that all three of these dates seem problematic downtown.

Not sure what's going on on these dates, but all three dates seem busy.
