hansie Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 Hi!My girlfriend and me are staying in New York from 11/21 to 11/24. We've booked (as backup) the Hapton Inn Seaport at the finacial district for 198$ per night which makes a sum of 685$ for the three nights including taxes. Now we actually don't want to stay at the finacial district but at a hotel at the center of the city (like CPS, MTW, MTE, ESB, Times Square). Now the 200$ per night is pretty our upper limit and we would spend it for a really decent hotel, but if we can go any cheaper it would be fine. So my strategy would be to look for a hotel up to about 200$ in the districts i mentioned above and just try 4* hotels. if we cannot get one for max 200$ we cound try 3* hotels for a cheaper price - say something around 150.- would be great. The Hampton Inn has just 2 stars as far as i can see, but it has excelent reviews. One thing i want to avoid is, to get a 3 star hotel which has in fact a lower standard than the hampton inn - do u have any suggestions to avoid that problem? As we leave here at the beginning of november (we stay 2 weeks in florida before going to new york) i want to end my bidding tries by the end of september.thanks in advance for your help!
hansie Posted September 27, 2008 Author Report Posted September 27, 2008 what i just found is the 2.5* Courtyard Marriott in MTE which woild be a great hotel. but i guess it is not possible to get a room there for sure since one may get "upgraded" to a 3* hotel which might not be as good as the marriot.
thereuare Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 I think you have a decent chance at a 4* hotel within your budget for these dates. To give it a try...At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Start with the board's link to PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, and ESB...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, and ESB and re-bid zone5...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, and ESB and re-bid zone6...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $200Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. thereuare Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Congratulations on your win!Glad to hear of your success... a nice deal for this property and for these dates.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Have a great stay.PS near your hotel is a great burger place... Jackson Hole Wyoming (on Third Ave at 35th St) if you need a filling but casual and inexpensive lunch/dinner... and some potent margaritas at Rio Grande at the base of the apartment building at 160 E 38th St (food is nothing special so better to have a drink and some chips and salsa at the bar... drinks are expensive at $8 (or more since i've been there) a pop but they're strong) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
hansie Posted September 29, 2008 Author Report Posted September 29, 2008 first: thanks a lot again for ur help and thanks one more time for your recommendations!!!i got one more question. we are 4 people travelling and when we search for a hotel in orlando when we arrive we would need 2 rooms. one can choose the number of rooms at priceline - so if i choose 2 rooms, then we rent 2 rooms at the hotel we would get!? actually we could have done this in new york too :) but at first i thought priceline is always just possible for one room for 2 persons.
thereuare Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 You can bid for up to 8 rooms at one time on PRICELINE... each room is guaranteed for double occupancy. If you'd like help with your Orlando stay please start a NEW TOPIC.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Thanks.
