oisin44 Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Hey everyone,I'm new to this board and really looking forward to getting a great hotel deal like everyone else is getting.id like to be in the center of things but don't mind up to a 20 walk. I'm quite happy to split my bids if that will help me get a better deal.my max bid is about $170 is that feasible at that time of year? any bidding strategy would be greatly appreciated. also would it be better to whole off until closer to the time or bid now? in my research i have got conflicting advice.looking forward to any feedbackthanks
thereuare Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!would it be better to whole off until closer to the time or bid now? in my research i have got conflicting adviceSee the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.Based upon current rates I'm doubtful that $170 will be enough for a 4* hotel for all of the dates of this stay. Since you're willing to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID we can suggest a strategy to try, but if you want to try all possible combinations it will probaby take you about an hour or so to go thru them all... if you're willing to put in the time we're willing to type out the strategy for you to follow :) Also, since bidding for split dates will take a fair amount of time, if you're rejected at $170 would you increase your limit for a 4* hotel or lower your star rating? If you'd raise your bid i would consider doing that now since our strategies start low and go up gradually, so the risk of an overbid based upon current prices is low.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and if you're ready to bid now and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. oisin44 Posted September 25, 2008 Author Report Posted September 25, 2008 I guess i would be willing to bid $200 no more for a 4*, if i am unsuccessful after that i would drop down to a 3*. as for spliting my bid, i would also be willing to maybe spend the mon, tue, wed, thurs night in a 4* and then spent the weekend and the remaining time in a 3* hotel if weekends are much more expensive.i'll quite happy spend an hour and more looking for a good deal its alway worth it in the end when you get a good bargain.thanks for your help
thereuare Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 Generally speaking, weekends are actually cheaper than week nites in NYC.Do you need to split the stay as you mentioned above OR are you flexible as to how to split your purchase?Let us know and we'll advise accordingly (NOTE: the suggested strategy will take awhile to bid, perhaps an hour, so if you're not willing to take this long let us know and we'll give an abreviated version, which if successful, may cost you a little more than neeeded)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. oisin44 Posted September 25, 2008 Author Report Posted September 25, 2008 thanks for ur help thereuare, i have no problem spending as long as it takes, an hour to get a good deal is nothing. i'm totally flexible with in those dates, what i really want is a 4* hotel for some of the trip to live it up for a bit then go for the cheap option (mid-week as you say) in a not so great place but still nice.this will be my first time in new york so i would like to be in the thick of it but i guess almost anywhere in Manhattan with a bit of a buzz will do. cheers
thereuare Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 So to confirm, we're going to see if we can get up to half of your stay at a 4* for a $200 bid or less, in any of the midtown zones (we won't include Downtown at this point in time). At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Start using our PRICELINE link...Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, and ESB...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bdi zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bdi zone3...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bdi zone4...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, and ESB and re-bid zone5...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bdi zone2...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bdi zone3...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bdi zone4...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, and ESB and re-bid zone6...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bdi zone2...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bdi zone3...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bdi zone4...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bdi zone5...Bid $200, if rejected close browser, use our link to re-access PRICELINE, and try for the next set of dates.I would cycle thru the above, trying for your complete stay, and then continue with each of the following date combinations:11/17/08 - 11/25/0811/18/08 - 11/25/0811/17/08 - 11/24/0811/19/08 - 11/25/0811/17/08 - 11/23/0811/20/08 - 11/25/0811/17/08 - 11/22/0811/21/08 - 11/25/0811/17/08 - 11/21/08Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
