Looking for 4* in Oakbrook. Would love the new Westin in Lombard.

Date: 9/26-9/27, 1 night

Used PRICELINE link above to start my bidding.

Tried: 1)Oakbrook, $37, denied

2)added Elmhurst, $42, denied

3)added Willowbrook, $47, denied

4)added Lisle, Naperville $52, denied

No 4* in #'s 2,3,4.

closed browser and started search over again from Betterbidding site for Oakbrook $57 - denied as follows: "We were not able to process this request since our records indicate you have already made a request for this same trip. We'd be happy to try your request again if you can do any one of the following:

Change your dates of stay.

Select a different hotel quality star level

Add more areas in which you'd be willing to stay

or wait at least 24hrs.

At this point I'm kinda tired of bidding. I think my max would be $70. I see on the forum Hyatt lodge wins from $42-68 and one Westin win for $68

How should I proceed next? Thanks.

PS. Our New Orleans and Pensacola Beach stays were great. Will post a review of those hotels soon.

I checked the convention schedule and there are:

Bishop's Annual Conference 9/22-9/25, Doubletree Hotel Chicago Oak Brook Delegates: 650

Managers Conference Holiday 9/28/2008 - 10/1/2008 Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center Delegates: 650

I don't know if that would make a difference?

Just my opinion, but the Hyatt Lodge comes up far more frequently than the Westin. When I am looking to bid for a 4* in this zone, I always check HOTWIRE first to see what price the 4* comes up for; then I bid on Priceline (if I see it come up for less than $75, I start my bidding at $40 and have never gone higher than $50. I am a bargain hunter looking for cheap local getaways and will try other hotels in other zones as an alternative if I can't get a deal in Oak Brook.) I have always gotten the Hyatt, which is fine by me - I've stayed there so many times, always thru an opaque website. As far as I know, the amenities that come up on Hotwire for the two hotels are identical, so there really is no way to target the Westin (except, possibly, by checking the Hyatt website and finding that the Lodge is sold out.) I always bid assuming that I'm going to get the Hyatt, but I would be fine with the Westin (now that I think about it, I might have gotten it once, right after they opened.) Keep in mind that the minimum bid for a 4* on Priceline is $40. Anyway, for the night you are looking for, on Hotwire, the 4* Oak Brook hotel is coming up for $95. My guess is you'll have to go $60 or higher to win on Priceline. I tried checking the Hyatt website for availability, but their reservation system is currently down. One more thing, you have LOTS of free rebids for this zone - 13 of them. The only other 4* bid for Chicago suburbs is Bloomingdale/Itasca. You just have to decide how high you are willing to go - somewhere between $40 and $95.

At the 4* level you have 12 re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* Oakbrook...

Bid $42, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $45, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $48, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $53, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $58, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $63, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $68, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $73.

You can stop at whatever price above you feel comfortable with and at which point an 'opaque' purchase makes sense relative to what you can get by booking direct.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Used the PRICELINE link above. That bidding process was a little nerve wracking. Had to make sure I did not check Bloomingdale by mistake.

I went down the list of prices and finally got a bite on the very last bid of $73.

thereuare - please change the heading to reflect the win. Thanks for the help and thanks from the DW(dear wife).

linda - thanks for the advice. Am too a bargain hunter. I think the conferences in the area made a difference? I wouldn't have mind the Hyatt in the $40-50 range. This is a one night staycation for us. Will try again during the Christmas season for shopping and overnight stay. Last time we did an overnighter was in Chicago. I'll tell you, for this suburbanite, I don't mind not paying city parking and taxi costs...I'm totally with you on the local getaways.
