BenG Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 This is the first time I've tried to bid for a hotel. I've seen a couple of good rates for the Jacksonville (Downtown) 3* zone posted here (with a $50 a night for October just a few posts down and another one well under $100 earlier this year). I'm trying to book for 10/21-10/26. I started at $50, and then doing then by adding zones without 3*, I tried $55, $60, $65, $70 yesterday. Today, I tried $70, $75, $80, $85, and $90 and still have been rejected on them all. Am I just out of luck for the really good deals that some others have gotten?I'm attending a conference at one of the hotels during that date, and the conference rate is $150/night, which is mighty steep. I've held a room at that rate as a backup, but would really like to get the price down. Any suggestions? Thanks.
thereuare Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 What are the dates of the conference and which hotel did you book your back-up with?Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. BenG Posted September 21, 2008 Author Report Posted September 21, 2008 The conference is Oct 22-26, at the downtown Hyatt, which is where my current reservation is. There other 3* priceline wins I've seen for downtown Jax are for the Hyatt and the Omni. Any tips on how best to split? The weekday nights and the weekend nights? 3 and 3?
thereuare Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 What is your check-in/check-out dates... your topic title states 10/21-10/26 (5 nites) but you mention six nites above. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. The conference goes until Sunday afternoon, so I was hoping to find a flight out then, but the Sunday night flights are expensive. As for splitting the stay, I have to admit I fibbed a bit in my first post, the reservation is for my wife. She will be traveling with our 3 month old, so she really doesn't want to have to swap hotels mid-stay...Thanks again for your help.
thereuare Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 Will you be waiting until your flights are purchased before buying your hotel room? BenG Posted September 26, 2008 Author Report Posted September 26, 2008 It somewhat depended on the cost of the hotel. If I could get a good deal on a hotel, then I'd have her stay the extra night. At $150 a night though, she should fly back Sunday evening.I've also just posted in the Florida - Hotwire forum about this trip. Thanks again
BenG Posted September 26, 2008 Author Report Posted September 26, 2008 I've put a post about this trip in the Priceline forum, but I went to Hotwire today, and it came up with a 2* in Downtown Jacksonville for $49 a night. This is for 10/21 to either 10/26 or 10/27. There are no 2* listings for Downtown Jacksonville on the ID thread.Looking on trip advisor, it looks like the only 2* downtown is the Hampton, which gets good reviews, and would certainly be good enough, and much cheaper then the $150 a night at the Hyatt. Could it be anything else though? I'm planning on doing my final purchase, either HOTWIRE or PRICELINE, through the appropriate links on this site. Thanks.
thereuare Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread (if you ultimately use HOTWIRE we'll then move the entire thread to that section of the board)What are the amenities associated with the 2* offering on HOTWIRE? BenG Posted September 26, 2008 Author Report Posted September 26, 2008 Sorry about posting in the other forum. The two amenities are Complimentary Breakfast and High Speed Internet Access. After digging a bit more, based on price, I'm guessing it's more likely the Super 8 down the road, but I'm not sure.
thereuare Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 This property has not yet been identified, but it would see the Super 8 would be a reasonable guess. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help.
