potterz Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Hi,I am trying to plan a trip from SFO (San Francisco Intl.) to LHR (London Heathrow Intl.) The cost, cheapest one I have been able to find, is coming out around 1,000 USD. The dates I entered are not flexible (Departure Dec. 17th., 2008 to Jan. 3rd., 2009). I am trying to find something cheaper, I am thinking about bidding on Priceline, if I do how much should I bid for? Should I go 50% less or what? Please help :) I'm new at this. Thanks!!Potterz

potterz Posted September 17, 2008 Author Report Posted September 17, 2008 right now I can get a ticket for $902 with tax and everything. it doesn't say how much tax exactly but its probably around 300 i guess and the tickets 600ish. priceline only taxes +50 to the bid amount, right?
potterz Posted September 18, 2008 Author Report Posted September 18, 2008 WAIT read this not that post, I was wrong about the tax, I just checked. Airline Ticket Taxes & Fees: $367.45 per ticketThat is the amount of tax that is charged. The average cost of a ticket w/ tax is $1,000 w/ out tax on priceline it would be around $600.Should I go for rock bottom low like 200 or something higher?
thereuare Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 I'm showing total tix cost ~$1100 including ~$365 in fees... which leaves the base ticket pirce at ~$735.How much would you need to save to make an opaque tix (not being able to choose the itinerary, layover city, lenght of layover, etc) worthwhile? potterz Posted September 18, 2008 Author Report Posted September 18, 2008 Sorryy, I'm like a real noob to this. I have no idea what you mean :)$1100 would go way over when I can get one for $900 on Expedia.I'm looking for a total cost of the ticket around 700-800 . I don't mind how long I stay at a layover as long as it won't exceed 5-6 hours, which they usually don't, right?
thereuare Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 I was using prices from Orbitz which started at $1100.If you're finding a fare at $900... about $350 of that will be taxes, making the base fare $550 ($550 (base fare) + $350 (taxes) = $900 (total ticket price))The taxes will remain fixed, so if you're trying to keep your total under $800 i would start with ~$250 (with taxes should be about $600... always check the PRICELINE confirmation screen to see the total before submitting your bid)You can then re-bid, increasing your bid by $25 or so each bid, by using the techniques in this Priceline Airfare Re-bidding thread, until the total will reach your maximum bid of $800.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if you have any questions regarding the above.
