godwin Posted September 15, 2008 Report Posted September 15, 2008 Dates are Nov 07-Nov 10Hello I am new to priceline and will try it for the first time soon, I am looking for a 4* notel in Midtown West, east, Soho Finiancial District and Times Square. My question is in the initial bid, i put all the districts I want or do I just put one or two and then when re-bidding comes I add districts on there. The districts I really want are Soho Finiancial and Midtown West, but will settle for Midtown east or Times Square.Any help is appriciated.
thereuare Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 What is your maximum bid for this stay?Is there a reason you're not including the CPS or ESB zones in your bidding? Are you willing to pay more for a hotel in the MTW or Downtown zones OR is your goal the lowest price for a 4* in any of the acceptable zones above?Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
godwin Posted September 16, 2008 Author Report Posted September 16, 2008 what is CPS and ESB zones? I am willing to pay a bit more for MTW and Downtown zones upto a max of $230, but ultimately my goal is to get the lowest price in any of the zones above, as I am on a budget for this trip. Also I have a question about rebidding, I read an article on rebidding and it sugest if i get a immediate rebid, i enter in a zone that does not have the star rating you requested and will automatially re-bid under the origional bid. So say for example I did on 4* Downtown Soho for a $100 and my bid gets rejected, and since madison square garden only has 3* i select that and rebid at $110 does that mean because madison square garden doesnt have a 4* priceline will re-bid again at only 4* Downtown soho again? correct me if i am wrong.thanks.
thereuare Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 what is CPS and ESB zones?CPS = Central Park SoutESB = Empire State BuildingI am willing to pay a bit more for MTW and Downtown zones upto a max of $230, but ultimately my goal is to get the lowest price in any of the zones above, as I am on a budget for this trip. You'll need to be a bit more specific in your goal for us to suggest a strategy... how much more are you willing to bid to be in teh MTW or Downtown zone vs. one of the other zones OR is really your ultimate goal the least expensive 4* hotel in any of the acceptable zones? Also I have a question about rebidding, I read an article on rebidding and it sugest if i get a immediate rebid, i enter in a zone that does not have the star rating you requested and will automatially re-bid under the origional bid. So say for example I did on 4* Downtown Soho for a $100 and my bid gets rejected, and since madison square garden only has 3* i select that and rebid at $110 does that mean because madison square garden doesnt have a 4* priceline will re-bid again at only 4* Downtown soho again? correct me if i am wrong.I think you have the concept correct... technically you are bidding for a 4* hotel in both Downtwn as well as MSG, but you know you won't win a hotel in MSG since they have no hotels which meet the minimum star level criterial you have selected. If you're new to re-bidding, it's highly recommended you confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding. godwin Posted September 16, 2008 Author Report Posted September 16, 2008 well my goal would be to get a hotel room in for around the $160-$230 range. $230 per night is the most I can afford at this time. My goal is preety much the cheapest 4* I can find in the zones I specified.
thereuare Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Do you want to include the CPS and ESB zones in your bidding only stick with MTE, MTW, Downtown, and Times Square?Have you tried to determine your re-bid zones and do you want to confirm them with the board? (at the 4* level you have SIX such re-bid zones)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. godwin Posted September 17, 2008 Author Report Posted September 17, 2008 I will include CPS AND ESB as well.
thereuare Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 One more question before suggesting a bidding strategy...Since you're willing to stay Downtown, is Jersey City (NJ) an option? There is a PATH train which will have you into Downtown Manhattan in 10 minutes and i think you can get a very good deal there for these dates (~$125-$175) but you do lose the "NYC feel" as Jersey City gets quiet at nite, especially on the weekends.I'd probably still try NYC first, but as you mention you're on a budget, not sure if you would want to try lowballing this area first, or trying for NYC first but lowering your maximum bid given this option).Let us know your thoughts and we'll advise accordingly. godwin Posted September 17, 2008 Author Report Posted September 17, 2008 nah dont want jersey, because this is my second time in New York, and the last time I was in New York was when I was 10. So I really want to get a feel for the city and when I get confortable, I can later on consider Jersey the next time I come.
thereuare Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, and Downtown...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, and Downtown and re-bid zone5...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, and Downtown and re-bid zone6...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $205, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, and Downtown and re-bid zone5 and re-bid zone6...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $220, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $225, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $230Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. godwin Posted September 17, 2008 Author Report Posted September 17, 2008 I am a little confused here, so when I first bid, I select all the zones I want first then If I get rejected I rebid zone 1 2,3,4,5 until i get an accepted offer? Also there is a montion of how priceline zone 1 is different from re-bid zone 1. can you explain to me what the re-bid zone 1-4 are?
thereuare Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Let's start with the basics... are you able to identify your six re-bid zones? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. godwin Posted September 18, 2008 Author Report Posted September 18, 2008 are the re-bid zones the zones that do not have the star rating I am origionally bidding on? if so thenI found1. upper west side2. upper east side3. madision sq gardens4. long island city5. chealsea area6. brooklyn
thereuare Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Yes, you have your re-bid zones correct (although to get technical, a re-bid zones is a zone that only contains star levels lower than the one you're bidding... not just a zone that doesn't contain the star level you're bidding. This is an important difference if, for exampe you were bidding 2.5*... you could not add a zone which didn't have 2.5* hotels but did haev 3* hotels since the star rating you select is the minimum you're willing to accept, and priceline could upgraded your 2.5* bid to a 3* hotel)So you can subsitute the numbers you have next to each zone above for each re-bid zone, such as:re-bid zone1. upper west sidere-bid zone2. upper east sidere-bid zone3. madision sq gardensre-bid zone4. long island cityre-bid zone5. chealsea areare-bid zone6. brooklynOur point about the re-bid zones numbers not being the same as PRICELINE's zone numbers was to avoid any confusiong, for example, when you get to re-bid zone2 you would use "Upper East Side" from your list above, and NOT "Central Park South" which is the 2nd zone listed in PRICELINE's list of zones for the NYC area.Hopefull the above makes it clearer but if not, or any questions remain, feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.PS- always doublecheck your re-bid zones before starting a bidding cycle to make sure that nothing has changed since the last time you checked Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
godwin Posted September 19, 2008 Author Report Posted September 19, 2008 ok i got it now, ill try this tommorow, and see how it goes, thanks.
godwin Posted September 19, 2008 Author Report Posted September 19, 2008 ok I got rejected for all my bids, heres what I didI started off bidding, Midtown West, Midtown East, Downtown, Times Square and Empire State Building @$160 *rejectedI added Madison Square Garden $ 170 *rejectedI re-bid chealsea ave $175 *rejectedI redbid Central park s @180 *rejected.now does this mean I have to wait 24 hours to rebid again?
thereuare Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 Are you bidding at the 4* level? If so, why not follow the strategy outlined above? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. godwin Posted September 19, 2008 Author Report Posted September 19, 2008 Yeah I was the reason why I started at $160 was because I thought $130 was too low so I start at $160 but I guess it doesn't work so does that mean I have to wait until tommorow to rebid?
thereuare Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 You could start at $160 if you choose but you only used 3 of your re-bid zones, of which there are SIX at the 4* level... are you able to determine all six re-bid zones? (highly recommended you confirm them with the board, or ask for help if you're unsure, before bidding)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. I read somewhere we needed to.One more question before I try this again, if I add upper wst side and upper east side with only has 2.5* hotels and I bid at 4* star level will priceline put me into 2.5 star hotel? or will they just re-bid at the 4* ones?
thereuare Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 what happened was I was doing this at work and got interruped by something and had to deal with that, so I was only able to bid for the three zones, when I came back my session was expired and couldnt re-bid again. In the future you could just re-access PRICELINE and resume where you left off (assuming you remembered which zones you had already included)And do we have to close the broswer window everytime we submit a new bid? I read somewhere we needed to.I've edited the Priceline Strategy above to make it clearer when to close the browser... you don't need to do it after each bid, just the 3 times it mentions to do so.One more question before I try this again, if I add upper wst side and upper east side with only has 2.5* hotels and I bid at 4* star level will priceline put me into 2.5 star hotel? or will they just re-bid at the 4* ones?Assuming you have checked your re-bid zones before bidding and there are no 4* or higher rated hotels in the UES or UWS zones, then you can't win a hotel there if you keep your bidding at the 4* level.Hope the above answers your questions and it's clearer, if not, just post back and we'll try to answer any questions which remain. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. godwin Posted September 26, 2008 Author Report Posted September 26, 2008 Hello my previous thread http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=56029& I wanted the same above except now my dates have changed because of work purposes, I will now go to NYC on Oct 24-27 2008. One thing I will also take out is Soho as I think that had something to do with me not getting my bids, and I thank goodness for that all my bids got rejected. I am now looking for a hotel from ($120-$200) a night, as that is all I can afford. heres my strategy Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, and re-bid zone5...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $165, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, and re-bid zone6...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $190, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, and re-bid zone5 and re-bid zone6...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $215how does this sound?
thereuare Posted September 26, 2008 Report Posted September 26, 2008 We've merged your threads since this is the "same" trip but your dates have changed... this will prevent an "open" thread on the board as there likely would have been no follow-up on your other thread ('closing' that thread that your dates have changed)The strategy above seems fine for these dates assuming you're keeping your maximum bid at $215/nite.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. godwin Posted September 27, 2008 Author Report Posted September 27, 2008 I have tried this and still no winnings. Also my dates are flexible too as I have that whole week off, I can head off oct 22 to oct 25 or oct 24-27. Now say for example I get rejected for the dates oct 22 to oct 25 on my initial bid, am I allowed to start a whole new bid for oct 24-27 and use the above strategy again? Now is there anything that i should be aware of on those dates?
thereuare Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 Yes, if you can change your dats you can bid again immediately following the same strategy, and it won't be viewed as a duplicate bid. Please remember to use the PRICELINE link on the board to begin your bidding.Good luck and keep us updated.
