Hotwire Hotel: Nov. 22nd through 27th

O.k Last year my son marched in the Macy's parade and I spent hours and hours researching hotel prices and finally gave in and booked about 3 weeks before my trip. If I had waited to book at last minute i could have saved over 500.00 dollars!

48 hours before my trip I started checking hotwire and found all the hotels that were 300.00 to 400.00 had come down to around 129.00 to 159.00. most were 4 stars. So I was wanting some opinions. This is the last year he will march in Macy's and the last year I will probably get to go, and I just don't have a lot to spend on hotels and could even possibly keep me from going at all.

My question is I am thinking about saving all my money in an account and take a chance on last minute bookings. I don't care what kind of location its in as long as it is in manhatten, but I don't want to book something again, when I know at the last minute they cut prices almost in half if not more, at least that was my experience last year.

Is this a an O.k. idea in anyone's opinion? I'm thinking about doing airfare the same way.

I don't think you can draw a conclusion based upon your experience of one. I don't seem to recall rates dropping for Thanksgiving day just before the event, although rates post-Thanksgiving are usually reaonsably priced.

Bottomline is that nobody can say if rates will drop this year or not... it all depends upon how actual bookings come in relative to expected bookings.
