barneymiller Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Wanted any 4* in Manhattan for 9/26 - 9/28 for anniversary. Been bidding zone 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10 at $150 and adding zones in increments of $10 to $200. Had no luck for weeks. Today I bid $150, and was rejected. A popup offered a onetime second bid without a change of zones with a $25 minimum increase. I bid the $175 and it was accepted. I know this is really a busy week in NY and didn't think I would get anything near that price. I wasn't sure how to proceed with the counter offer, because I always link up to PRICELINE through this site. Thanks for the strategy and help. I am really happy with the price and hotel, (I've been there a few times before). A lot of people don't like downtown, but I think it's great and you can get anywhere by taxi or subway easily.

zigzagger Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Hey Barney, i have found it very helpful to find when you can get a deal in nyc (on either PRICELINE and/or HOTWIRE) by looking on HOTWIRE's "last minute travel deals" that can give you an idea of the dates where you can get low prices on hotels
