gharmison Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 I'm looking for a 4* in TS MTW or MTE. I'd like to spend 200-250 tops. I've attempted $150, re-bidded $175 and re-bidded $200 with no luck. Any suggestions? Is this a reasonable price rainge that I'm attempting? Thanks for any help I could get.
thereuare Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 There is a BIG United Nations meeting on 9/24 and that is likely just one event driving up hotel prices for these dates. What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional means? (use our BetterChecker, Quickbook, and GTA Hotels) What is your maximum bid for this stay... you'll likely need to 'give' someplace, either in raising your bid or lowering your star rating. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. gharmison Posted September 10, 2008 Author Report Posted September 10, 2008 The best price I've found so far is $409 through priceline for the Hilton New York MTW. I'm willing to go down to a 3* as long as I'm at either TS MTE or MTW. This is a first trip to NY for the wife and I and would like to be near the action. The most I'd really like to spend is $250 per night. Thanks for the help!
thereuare Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 So to confirm, you want to first try for a 4* up to your limit ($250 bid or is that 'all-in') before trying for a 3*?Let us know and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. gharmison Posted September 10, 2008 Author Report Posted September 10, 2008 Yes, I'd first like to try the 4* (although it sounds like the chances are slim) and them move to a 3* all with a limit of $250.I've changed my dates to Sept 19-22 in hopes of landing a 4* for 200-250. My choices are ts, mte, mtw and cps. I've went from 150-220 re-bidding with no luck. Will I need to drop to a 3* or should I just be patient and try again tomorrow. The 250 isn't all-in, I could handle going over that for taxes-fees.Thanks for the help!

gharmison Posted September 12, 2008 Author Report Posted September 12, 2008 Well I've had no luck the last two days. I've went up to $250 for a 4* with all of the re-bidding zones and up to $220 for a 3*. Should I continue trying this or am I going to get stuck in New Jersey? I've found the Sheraton Suites on the Hudson in Jersey City for $185 through Expedia but really don't want to deal with the commute everyday. I guess if that's the best available I'll go with that but would rather stay in the city. I was trying until almost midnight last night so I wouldn't be able to bid again until late tonight. Thanks for any advise!
gharmison Posted September 12, 2008 Author Report Posted September 12, 2008 Just a quick update. I decided to split the hotels up a little. I was bidding for the 19th - 21st for a 4* and got up to $240 and was asked to add $25 to that. I did so and booked Le Parker Meridien New York for $265. For Sunday 9-21 I started at $140 and landed the Hilton New York on my first bid. I'm very happy with my Sunday stay but wished I could've gotten the same hotel for the whole trip. All in all it worked out and I'm sure we'll enjoy our 1st trip to New York. Thanks for your help and I did use your PRICELINE link to book these nights.Glen
thereuare Posted September 12, 2008 Report Posted September 12, 2008 Congratulations on your win!Glad to see you were flexible in your plans to split the stay and were ultimately successful... certainly saved a LOT of money for the nite of the 19th.I've edited the topic title of this thread to reflect your purchase of the Le Meridien and moved an old post above to a NEW TOPIC to reflect your PRICELINE WIN for the first nite at the Hilton New York.Thank you for sharing your win(s) with the board and for using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
