Lulubelle Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 So I just did name my price on Priceline for NYC 9/22-9/25. I am coming for CGI's annual meeting and there is also a big UN Summit. I bid $300 for Midtown West and South Central. No takers. Then I added in Midtown East, still nothing. I wonder should I wait until closer to the event dates for hotels to free up space? I am seeing a good choice of rooms in W Hotels, 6 Columbus, etc. just with very expensive rates.I don't want to have a situation where I am in a bad hotel or one far away from the event as I will be working long hours. Want a 4 star with gym, room service and wifi.Thoughts??? Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!UN events usually take up a LOT of hotel rooms so waiting until the last minute may be a risky proposition (at the very least you would want to book a cancellable back-up... use our BetterChecker to research cancellable hotel direct rates, as well as Quickbook and GTA Hotels are often good sources)Where is the meeting taking place? Also is the Fitness center a want or a need? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Lulubelle Posted September 5, 2008 Author Report Posted September 5, 2008 Hi there,The event is at 6th Ave and 55th Streets at the Sheraton Hilton and Towers. I rather not stay there so that on my off hours don't run into heads of state and colleagues in my sweats...Our rate there is still $500/night. Maybe that should be my back up?I don't mind a 10-15 minute walk to event space either...Fitness center is pretty important. I get up early to run and read the paper during warmup on the treadmill :)
thereuare Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 You can't guarantee a fitness center when using PRICELINE. If this is a "must have" then you'll need to use HOTWIRE and purchase something with a Fitness icon, but remarkably, and evidence of demand for these dates, there is NOTHING in Manhattan shown at all for these dates! :) If you're looking for a "deal" the best i can find is the Desmond Tutu Center (rated 3 stars by most) thru Quickbook for $378/nite... which is at 15th St and Tenth Ave, more than a 'walk' to the Sheraton, but the savings can pay for a lot of cab rides between here and the Sheraton. I called them and they do have a Fitness 'area' but i was forwarned that it's not really up to date, so i wouldn't count on it being up to your standards, but the hotel does get great reviews... this is also cancellable up until a few days before your arrival.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Lulubelle Posted September 9, 2008 Author Report Posted September 9, 2008 Argh! Still nothing for Southwest, midwest, mideast Manhattan for $350 a night. Gosh I wish I had booked the $400/night room at 6 Columbus two weeks ago!!!Stay tuned for updates...
thereuare Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Have you since bid again? How high did you go and which zones did you include? What is the best rate you're currently able to find thru traditional booking sources? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Lulubelle Posted September 10, 2008 Author Report Posted September 10, 2008 Yes, I'm bidding $450 and nothing in MW, Central Park South, MTE, Times Square, Empire State. Nothing. The Time hotel has an online rate of $509 but Tripadvisor reviews are awful and say they have bedbugs. ugh. I am using your links and will keep trying!!
thereuare Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Any interest in the Hotel on Rivington which is a new, trendy, and 'hip' hotel. It's on the lower east side but about a block from the F train which will take you close to your venue's location... $415/nite thru Quickbook.
