Need room for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Thinking about bidding Saturday (0/13) and Sunday (9/14) together and then Monday (9/15) separately. Any advice?

Thinking about low bid ($180 to $200) on Priceline for 4* on weekend and the doing Monday separately at higher rate on Priceline... any way to get same hotel??? Alternatively use a hotel.com type website and book same hotel that Priceline confirms

Welcome to BetterBidding!

I assume you are looking at New York City (and not New City which is a small town north of the city in Rockland County)

Which zone(s) are you willing to accept and we'll then be able to research your stay above.

Yes it is New York City; 9/13/2008 Arrival and 9/16/2008 Check Out

I have been looking at Times Square and Midtown West. When I re-bid I added Central Park South.

Thought about Midtown East, but have not included as of yet. Any thoughts on other areas, coming into Penn Central; going to Broadway shows.

Your plan makes sense with a few caveats...

If you're successful for 9/13-9/15, PRICELINE may give you to the option to 'extend your stay'. If offered, and you try, i'm douubtful if it will be at the same rate, but they may offer you the same hotel for a specific price.

If this option is not offered, there is a chance that the hotel you receive is sold-out or prohibitively expensive for the remaining nite ($400, $500, $600) if booked direct, would you be willing to stay in a different hotel for the last nite if this is the case?

Lastly, it doesn't appear that you understand re-bidding, as adding CPS to your isn't really a re-bid, as re-bidding is adding a zone that you couldn't win since it only contains star ratings lower than the one you are bidding. See Priceline Re-Bidding Explained (you have SIX re-bid zones in NYC... it's recommended you confirm them with the board before proceeding to make sure you don't end up in an area that you didn't intend OR ask questions if you don't understand)

It appears that you have already bid on this... how high did you bid and for which set(s) of dates?

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.

After failing to win a bid in MTW and Times Square I added a zone (CPS) and re-bid immediately at $10 higher price; knowing that I probably wouldn't get CPS at higher price, but might get MTW or Times Square at the higher price. I went as high as $200 for the three night stay that included the Monday at 4* and then 3*. My next thought was to just bid Sat (9/13) and Sun (9/14) at approximately $180 for 4* and then maybe add 3* at same price. If successful, hopefully hotel will offer to add a night and I can follow your suggestion of adding a night if offered.

Your thoughts would be great and thanks for your assistance.

For the two nite stay i think it will take more than $180 for a 4*... you have a chance for a 3* at $180, but if you raise your maximum bid $200 i think your chances go up further.

The sole nite if 9/15, as i eluded above, may be prohibitively expensive but there is currently a good deal available in Jersey City if that interests you (this deal appears to be available for Sunday nite and Monday nite if you're interested in both days... and staying in Manhattan for just Saturday nite)

As well, since these are difficult (ie- expensive) dates you may want to consider expanding your acceptable zones to give more hotels the ability to accept your bid.

Are you familiar with re-bidding and know your SIX re-bid zones at the 4* level and THREE re-bid zones at the 3* level? If so, let us know if you want to keep your maximum bid at $180 for the 4* and 3* bidding and we'll advise accordingly.

You need to know how to check your re-bid zones yourself as they can, and do, change at anytime and therefore need to be checked before every bidding cycle. If we posted the zones here, they could change by the time you bid, and you could end up in an area that you didn't intend.

If you've read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and it doesn't make sense, then list each PRICELINE zone in the NYC region and the highest star rating available in each zone, using the following technique from Priceline Re-Bidding Explained:

The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time. (NOTE: for most users Priceline has updated their interface making the above process easier... simply check a zone and note the highest star rating available within each zone, UNcheck that zone and checkmark the next zone, repeating the process)

Post your zone and star rating list as a reply to this thread. If you're still confused then just post back and we'll break it down further for you.
