bubbles123 Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 Hi!I'm new to this whole priceline thing :o We're going to stay in NYC from 11/20 - 11/25. Now I'm looking for a 4* Hotel (Times Sq., Midtown, Madison Sq. G.). Since I haven't read anyone bidding for late November, I guess nobody's staying there just before Thanksgiving :) My question: Which rates can I expect? Thanks for answering!Greetings, Juliabtw: sorry for my baaad english :)
doccrow Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 Hi bubbles,I'm looking to stay just after you in Dec.My bidding followed the list suggested in the topic " early dec when to bid" just before yours.I got to $340 / night with no success. (60% of list).I'm not sure if I should wait a while or just keep bidding higher. If you decide the maximum you would be happy with bidding given that you don't know which hotel you will get and bid towards that using the scheme in my topic you might get lucky.Good idea to book a fully cancel able/ refundable hotel anyway in case you cannot win a bid on priceline.PS remember to click through this site to access PRICELINE.If from outside USA see PRICELINE NON-US topic on how to enter address details. thereuare Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!bubbles123, rates for you dates are a little better than rates for doccrow's dates, but i would think that you're looking at ~$250 or so for a 4* or ~$200 for a 3* in the midtown zones. Of course i wouldn't bid these figures to begin, and i wouldn't use these as absolute limits, but should give you an idea of a ballpark area.Once you're ready to bid let us know how you'd like to proceed (minimum star rating, maximum bid, and zones you're willing to accept (by PRICELINE name)) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. bubbles123 Posted September 2, 2008 Author Report Posted September 2, 2008 Hi thereuare!I've checked the cheapest available rates of the hotels located around TS and MTW....I've just seen, that the Nov 20-25th date is way more expensive than the Nov 21-26th, so I've changed my flight dates. The rates there range from 350-550$ a night, so I guess I'll end up with paying at least 200$... I absolutely DON'T want to stay at the W New York cuz the rooms are waaaay too tiny & dirty for a 4* Hotel, so I'd avoid MTE. At the moment the W is for 175$/night on hotwire. Any strategy advice? My absolute maximum would be 280$/night incl. tax and charges.. Otherwise my boyfriend would kill me :) . If TS & MTW get too expensive, I'd be happy with the Millenium Hilton in Downtown, too. It's probably the most won hotel in this area, right? Many thanks for your great help :)
thereuare Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I understand you're avoiding the MTE zone, but is there a reason you're avoiding the CPS and/or ESB zones too?Let us know if we should include these in your bidding as well (or not) and we'll suggest a strategy to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. bubbles123 Posted September 2, 2008 Author Report Posted September 2, 2008 I guess CPS and ESB would be okay, too... But I'd still prefer TS & MTW :) So I'd try these first and, if rejected, I'd add CPS and ESB... but I have to wait 72h to re-bid then...right?Thank you :)
thereuare Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 $280 before taxes and fees is about $235-$240/niteAt the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* TS and MTW...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS and MTW and re-bid zone5...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $185, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS and MTW and re-bid zone6...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $210, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS and MTW and re-bid zone5 and re-bid zone6...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $220, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $225, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $235, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $240The wait out period is now 24 hours, no longer 72 hours. Howver, if the above is rejected, you can close the browser and re-try substituting CPS and ESB for TS and MTW... since you're changing the zones to once you never bid before the lock-out doesn't apply.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
