New to the site, which is an awesome tool. I'm looking to get a hotel in downtown San Diego for a music festival 9/19-9/21. I've seen several posts about getting the Omni or other downtown hotels for around ~$100-$110, today I tried first at 100, then free rebid, an awesome trick, at 110, rejected, and then again at 115 and got rejected. Should I just keep uping my $ or should I wait a few days?

btw i did use the PRICELINE link on here

edit: just tried $120 and rejected again

Thanks

Welcome to BetterBidding!

I don't know how bid the music festival you are attending is, but if it's large, it could be putting increased demand on hotels and therefore prices for these particular dates may be higher than you've seen for other dates (when occupancy is lower). A quick check of some of the 4* hotels in the area show rates at ~$300/nite range (so your current biddng is only about 1/3 of a traditionally booked rates)

Would the Sheraton Hotel and Marina work for your needs? I believe this hotel is more "Harbor Island" than it is "Downtown" (not sure where the music festival you're attending is located), and while is currently a 3* on PRICELINE (recently downgraded) it is still rated 4* via HOTWIRE and appears to be available for $135/nite... any interest?

If not, what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable property for this stay? What is your maximum bid?

the only problem with the HOTWIRE one is it is a little far. other hotels in downtown would be walking distance which is what i'm looking for if possible.

today tried, 125, 130, 140, & 150 and got rejected for all of them. It just seems hard to believe that this weekend is tougher than labor day weekend, ie lower rates have been secured for labor day weekend. should i hold off another week or two, or is my only real option to just keep upping the price?

the music festival is right next to petco btw, so the sheraton is about 4 miles or so away, a doable distance, but other hotels in downtown are less than a mile away, which would be preferred

thanks in advance

edit: just tried 155 and got the westin in downtown, rate on the westin website is $279 so not too shabby

Congratualtions on your success!

Glad you received something that works well for your needs and you're happy with the results.

There are two Westin properties in this zone, the Westin San Diego and the Westin Gaslamp Quarter (910 Broadway Circle)... only the Gaslamp Quarter has been reported to the board (via PRICELINE), can you confirm that this is the property you received? (based upon the retail rate you quoted i'm assuming it's the Gaslamp Quarter property and have indicated this hotel in the topic title, but please confirm)
