Hi there,

Booked flights for me and my partner on 27th Nov for 4 nights....

Last year we stayed at MArriott Marquis and got quite a good deal... this year its very expensive...

I'm not only looking for help on Hotwire and Priceline but also a location in NY....

We want to be close to the action and shopping, but don't wan the hotel to be in a real quiet neighbourhood, so its quiet at night etc...

Am willing to pay $350-$400 a night.

Can you clarify... i think there is a "not" or something missing in the above.
Is there any kind of map or explanation of the areas, MTW, MTE etc etc
If you enter "New York City" and your dates in the search box on the top right of this page you'll be take to a PRICELINE page with the list of the zones on the left and a map of the zones on the right. As well, you can read this thread of PRICELINE NYC ZONE DESCRIPTIONS.

If you let us know what star level you're trying for we can offer some comments/suggestions.

it might not even be worth using priceline for when I want to go as it will be so busy!?!?
It will be harder to get a deal since occupancy is high and there is less of a reason for hotels to offer deeply discounted prices to the opaque providers... but deals can still be had. The discounts may not be as deep, but you can usually still save some money.

Let us know if you'd like to move forward and we'll advise accordingly.

Before looking at a 4* hotel in the MTE, MTW, or TS area (alhtough i'd also suggest you consider CPS to improve your chances) i did a HOTWIRE search and am surprised that some of the rates are actually quite reasonable (relatively speaking) for this time of year... especially if you're willing to be flexible in exchange for value.

For example, what appears to be the Club Quarters Downtown is avaialble on HOTWIRE for just $166/nite. Would this be my first choice of hotel and location... nope. However, for $166/nite it's an excellent deal for this time of year, rooms are small but clean, and gets good reviews.

Also Downtown what appears to be the Millenium Hilton is available for $239 and might be had on PRICELINE for ~$200/nite.

If you want to shoot for a midtown location i'm guessing it might take ~$275-$325, so presented the above in case budget was an issue or concern, or if you wanted to lower your maximum bid based upon the above alternatives (ie- i don't think it would be worth paying $400/nite in midtown vs. $166/nite downtown... the $200+ difference per nite can pay for a LOT of cab rides per day and still be ahead of the game... plus the Club Quarters is near the 4-5 Train (runs up the East Side) and the 2-3 Train (take you diagnally crosstown and up the west side)... so it's convenient enough to get around, but you'll need to take the subway ~20 minutes or so to get to midtown.

Your thoughts?

I think i would still prefer the Midtown option, even at the inflated price....

I have currently been looking at Courtyard Midtown East and Times Square....

They are around the 400 a night ..... so for 275, i'd be happy
