qc_hunter Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 I have experience with Hotwire because I have kids. This trip my wife and I are taking in a Cubs game 9/19 (No kids!!). We can use Priceline to try and save a few bucks, but I have never used it. Hotwire has a 4* Magnificent Mile at $169, so I guess around $130 would be our max. Plus there is a 4* Loop at $129 if we had to at last resort. Since everything I am seeing on hotel websites are $250 or higher, even the $169 looks good. I think it is the Sheridan and we are hoping to get something a little further west, but the Grand-Red CTA stop wouldn't be that far. We would like to stay north of the river after bad past experiences walking at night south of it. Plus we will be out on the town without kids for once. I did a little homework on here to bid tonight (8/26) as follows;NMA $60 RejectedNMA LINC $65 RejectedNMA MID $70 RejectedNMA MID LINC $75 RejectedNMA SKO $80 RejectedNMA SKO LINC $85 RejectedNMA SKO LINC MID $90 RejectedDo I have to wait now for 24 or 72 hours to start again? Should I start at $90 when I do?Any other advice I am all ears. These prices all seem high, we just stayed 3 days last month at the Hyatt for $119 a night. Direct from their site. Must be something big going on.
thereuare Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 Did you want to only bid the NMA zone up to $130 before considering the Loop zone?Let us know the above and we'll then be able to suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. qc_hunter Posted August 28, 2008 Author Report Posted August 28, 2008 Yes, definitely only NMA to $130. If nothing then I will use a different option. To add the loop I would not be going over $100. That would be a last option though. Thanks.
thereuare Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 At the 4* level you have THREE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* NMA...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 4* NMA and re-bid zone2...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 4* NMA and re-bid zone3...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 4* NMA and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone3...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. qc_hunter Posted August 29, 2008 Author Report Posted August 29, 2008 NMA $95 RejectedNMA LINC $100 RejectedNMA MID $105 ACCEPTEDCongratulations, your price of $105 was accepted by The Palmer House Hilton.Hmm! I swear I clicked Miday but somehow I won a hotel in the Loop?? I guess I clicked the wrong one. Oh well for $105 I cant complain. The Palmer House is right next to the Red Line so we wont have to be walking around at night. Just walk straight to the hotel off the train that night. The Palmer House website is showing ADVANCE PURCHASE for $246.00 that night.Thanks.
thereuare Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Congratualtions on your win... while not the zone you were expecting it certainly seems like a great deal.If you believe you did not select the Loop you can contact PRICELINE and inform them that you never clicked this zone and they will either confirmt that you did not (and offer a refund) OR send you a screenshot of the Loop zone being selected before you placed your bid. However, it seems like this may work well for your needs so you may want to keep it regardless. Thanks for sharing your win with the board. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
