Hi, I'm new to the whole PRICELINE thing and am seeking advice on how to go about bidding.

I'm looking for a double room in a hotel located somewhere central, anything really 2.5star and above with a budget of around $200-250/night.

It's my wife and I's first visit to New York so just looking for comfort and easy access to all the places worth seeing.

Thank you for your help

Welcome to BetterBidding!

I'm looking for a double room...
I assume you need a room to accomodate two people... and not necessarily two beds, correct?
a hotel located somewhere central
Most visitors find most midtown locations acceptable... MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, MSG, ESB, and Chelsea. However, there are some hotels in the MTE zone which are a bit east and a few in the MTW which are a bit west, each about a 10+ minute walk to the subway... would these be acceptable outcomes?

Hi thereuare,

You're right with both assumptions, to share a double bed, and yeah a 10 minute walk to the subways is no problem.

Just want to go, see a show, catch the nicks if they're in town and do a bit christmas shopping.

Glad of any strategies you have.

Many thanks

You may be able to get a 3* hotel, and possibly a 4* hotel, within your $250/nite limit... do you want to try for a higher rated hotel first or is price more important than star quality? Are all the zones we've listed above acceptable?

If price is more imporant, you may want to consider trying first for at least a 3* hotel... while some 2.5* hotels may be acceptable, others may not be, and with PRICELINE you can't choose which type you will receive. But it's your stay and your money so you know your needs and budget better than we do.

Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly.

Hi thereuare,

would rather treat the wife and go 4 star first and pay a bit more than the $250, with the basketball, theatre and shopping a priority, would prefer around MSG, time square, ESB (let me know how realistic 4 star here would be) but any of the zones identified would be adequate seen as they're so close together.

If you're trying for a 4* hotel i would be comfortable with any of the midtown zones which currently offer 4* bidding (MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, and ESB)... the zones are close enough togethter, and mass transit inexpensive and readily available, that getting to MSG or the Theater shouldn't be an issue.

However, it's your stay and your budget, so you'll need to decide if you think all of these zones would work well for your needs. (also, if you're willing to go a little above $250, what is the actual highest bid amount you'd like to make)

Let us know and we'll advise accordingly.

Don't want to spend anymore than $1200 including taxes and charges so i guess that would mean no more than $255 per night, and yes i think all of the above zones would be fine.

Many thanks

Hi Thereuare,

Just to inform you i didn't really get anywhere with 4* on these daes at my Budget so started aiming for 3*.

Had a $200 bid rejected but recieved a counter offer of $225, went for this as I had no rebids remaining and got the 3* Crowne plaza - times square at this price.

So ased on previous posts about counter offers this may mean it's available for $210-215 for any future bidders around these dates.

Used your PRICELINE links to do it all and just wanted to thank you for your help.
