jab042573 Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Hi, we are going to be visiting NYC for the weekend of 9/11-9/14 and I have been trying for a hotel on priceline in manhattan and it is crazy expensive. Last time we stayed there we were in Brooklyn, but I have not had much luck their either. I am now looking at NJ as an alternative and it seems the 3* in Jersey City are nice, reasonably priced hotels.... Looks like I could get the Hyatt on the Hudson or the Doubletree. My question is: Would I only choose zone two if I want either of those hotels? 1 Elizabeth
geronimo Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Yes, you would most likely get either the Hyatt Regency or Doubletree in Jersey City, in Zone 2. You can however use a re-bidding strategy which would include bidding in some of the other zones (ie. those without any 3* hotels).I myself am looking to visit the NYC area next week and I am trying this strategy (unsuccessfully so far, as happened last summer too).
thereuare Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! The Thursday nite of your stay is much more expensive than the other two nites, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? What is your expected budget per nite? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. jab042573 Posted August 23, 2008 Author Report Posted August 23, 2008 Thanks for the tip. I tried splitting and did just FRI and SAT - still did not get itstarted at 85 Jersey city -nobid 100 added elizabeth for free rebid - nobid 110 added w orange for free rebid - still no(used the PRICELINE link)any more suggestions ?thanks!
thereuare Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 What is your maximum bid for this stay?Would you be willing to try for a 2.5* hotel in this zone?If not successful, would you consider raising your bid or looking at alternate zones? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. jab042573 Posted August 25, 2008 Author Report Posted August 25, 2008 My max bid is 120 per night, because I have seen people report getting those days anywhere between 90-110.No, I really don't want a 2.5*, I will try again up to 120.I really want to be by the PATH if I am staying in Jersey.Any idea if it would be better to wait till closer to the date to try again? Thanks,
geronimo Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 I think you should keep trying right now. Don't wait because you could end up being like me, stuck in a situation where you still haven't found anything and it's only 1-2 days before your planned departure date. There is no guarantee that the prices will come down closer to the date.
thereuare Posted August 25, 2008 Report Posted August 25, 2008 I would also continue to try SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, as the first nite is $400+ at each of the known 3* hotels in this zone, which is going to make winning a bid at a 'reasonable' price difficult. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. jab042573 Posted August 25, 2008 Author Report Posted August 25, 2008 Still no luck, tried splitting the bid to 9/11 seperate from 9/12 - 9/14Was up to 145 for 9/11 and 130 for the weekend days... Guess I'll keep trying.
