irocguy88 Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 Trying priceline (using the link here of course) to win a hotel in Boston Aug 29. One night stay. I've been trying the Copley area. I've gone as high as $105 and all the way down to 2*. The main thing is Fenway Park. I'll see a game Friday night and I want to take the tour Saturday. Other than that maybe the Sam Adams brewery tour. Is there another area I can bid that wouldn't be to inconvenient? I really don't want to go over $125 because I can book the Best western longwood for $133. How should I proceed?
thereuare Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 If you search HOTWIRE for your date there is a 4* in the Cambridge zone (Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business... 4.5/5.0 TripaAdivsor rating) for $134 which appears to be the Hotel Marlowe.Assuming correct this is near the Green line (either Lechmere or Science Park stations) which is a direct shot to the Kennmore Station which is near Fenway Park (doublecheck the above, but looks correct to me). While $9 more than you say you wanted to spend the reviews are excellent and i think would be worth the extra $10 over the Best Western.Would this work for your needs? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and/or how it goes or if we can be of further help. irocguy88 Posted August 19, 2008 Author Report Posted August 19, 2008 It might work. It looks like it's further from Fenway though. How far is the t stop? How bout the area? Is it more vibrant than the Best Western area?
thereuare Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 You can see the location of the Hotel Marlowe on THIS MAP as well as the T stop locations relative to the hotel. You could get a hotel geographically closer, but that doesn't mean it would be easier to get to (since the above would only be one train and no transfers)... and the hotel is very well rate too! :) I can't comment on the area relative to the Best Western. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. irocguy88 Posted August 19, 2008 Author Report Posted August 19, 2008 Is there any question whether that is the Marlowe or not?
thereuare Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 We can't see the name of the hotel either... so there is always a question if it is the property we guess or not.The best you can do is get as many pieces of the puzzle together and make your best shot at determining the picture. In this instance the amenities match what has previously been reported for the Marlowe (except for the Internet icon which is an amenity i'm sure they offer), the star rating fits, and the tripadvisor information provided is consistent with this property... so this appears to be the Hotel Marlowe and that would be our best guess.Guaranteed... absoultately not; but i'd be surprised if it wasn't (and sometimes i'm surprised)Let us know what you decide and how it goes. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. irocguy88 Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 Would the financial district be better than longwood and the Marlowe? I haven't tried to add that zone yet
thereuare Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Given your needs i don't think the zone is as important as the actual location of being near the green line (or some other metro line which would get you close to Fenway). As i noted above, you could get closer geographically, but since you'll likely be taking mass transit to the ballpark, if it involves a transfer it could actually take you longer. When commuting via mass transit it's usually best to look for the most direct route rather than the 'closest' which involves a tranfer/connection.Are you seeing the Longwood offered for your dates? irocguy88 Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 Yes, I've reserved the Longwood for that date through Hotels.com for $133. I have until the 27th to cancel it. I got some advise from the tripadvisor forum that the longwood location, the sirens will drive you nuts. They also commented that there really is nothing else there. Since I've never been to Boston, I just have no clue what to do. What would you do if it were you? If I should try priceline what zones should I include? I have no idea what hotel is close to a T stop?
thereuare Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 What would you do if it were you?I would be taking a chance on the HOTWIRE hotel... the 4.5/5.0 Tripadvisor rating makes it an easy decision for me. If I should try priceline what zones should I include?I would be biding on the "Downtown" zones of Copley Square and Quincy Market (two different zones) as transportation should be pretty good for this area, but you may not have a directy route to Fenway.I have no idea what hotel is close to a T stop?Which is why at times like this HOTWIRE could be a viable option... you can try to ID the hotel(s) beforehand and see the distance to the nearest T station. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.PS- if you didn't notice, please note that we're an affiliate of Hotels.com and please use our links (or any of the others in the support page) to begin your non-PRICELINE and non-HOTWIRE purchases/reservations Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases

I just won and was upgraded to 4* Hyatt Regency in the Quincy market for $115. I used the links here like always. I just cancelled the Longwood reservation. I will make a separate post with my win. Thanks again for your time.
