perfectdeuce Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Hey everyone,I'm looking for bidding advice. I want to currently secure a hotel in NYC (hoping for the Midtown East/West or Times Square Areas) for check-in on Saturday August 30th and check-out on Monday September 1st. This is sort of a last minute trip but I wanted to get advice about the best way to bid. I would prefer either a 3 or 4 star hotel in one of those areas. Is it best that I start bidding now or should I make a reservation outside of priceline somewhere and then wait to do priceline closer to my arrival date? I'm hoping to spend no more than $200 per night on a room but would just about do anything to secure a room for a cheaper rate so that I can enjoy more of the city while I'm there with the money I've saved. What should I start my bidding at and should I start with just 4 star hotels or start with the 3 star hotels at a lower offer?Any advice at all would be great. This is the first time I've posted and the first time I will be using PRICELINE.Thanks in advance to everyone.
thereuare Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!Based upon current rates I think $200 or less for this stay may be tough. To improve your chances it's advantageous to include as many acceptable zones as possible... is there a reason you're not including the CPS, MSG, ESB, or Chelsea zones?Do you have a back-up reservation anyplace? perfectdeuce Posted August 21, 2008 Author Report Posted August 21, 2008 Thanks for the real quick advice.I have no problem expanding my range to the Central Park South area but am looking to stay as close to Central Park as possbile and at a nice hotel. (There is a chance that we may get engaged during thie trip if the ring is ready.) Currently we have a reservation at Dream for $260 per night from Hotels.com. She elected to stay there because she thought it could be a fun place and good location. I have bid on priceline up to $225 in the CPS, MTE, MTW and TS areas for a 4 star hotel. Any suggetions on how to proceed would be great. Whether I should up my bid at a quicker pace right now, or wait until next week to do so?Thanks
thereuare Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 What is your objective at this point... a lower price than your back-up at the Dream? A nice hotel for about the same price? (meaning are you willing to pay a bit more for a nicer hotel... reviews of the Dream are "ok" at best) Since you've only bid for a 4* at this point, is a 3* a 'last resort' option or something you're looking to do at this point in time?Saturday nite is also much more expensive than Sunday nite... i know this is only a 2 nite stay, but is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
