Hotwire Hotel: 3.5* Newark (Secaucus-Meadowlands) Sheraton Meadowlands

Anyone know what this hotel is?

3.5* in Fort Lee - Hackensack ($79 per night)

Restaurant, Business Center, High-Speed Internet, Golf Nearby

I need 2 rooms for 2 nights - Aug 30th - Sept 1st.

BUMP. I posted a conclusion to my previous post. I didn't end up going with Hotwire but booked directly with Holiday Inn Fort Lee GW bridge.

Unfortunately, this time this hotel is sold out and labor day weekend seems to be pricer than the last time I was in the NYC area. I will be travelling into the city only on weekends. Does this make a hotel in the Paramus (worse case scenario from what I gather) more acceptable in terms of travel time into the city?

Any ideas at all as to what this hotel might be?? Thanks.

Although this hotel has not yet been reported, this could be the Crowne Plaza in Englewood and possibly the Hilton in Hasbrouck Heights. The Doubletree is an outside possibility, but the rate seems kind of low.

Thereuare may shed some light as to the traffic on weekends. :)

If you're looking to commute into the city this wouldn't be the first area i recommend... is there a reason you're not considering the Secaucus, North Bergen, Meadowlands, Rutherford areas?

The fact that the hotel does not have a fitness facility, does it rule out all of the above mentioned hotels?

On the other hand, I did a search on Expedia using the same search criteria (Fort Lee, NJ - Aug 30 - Sept 1) and the only 3.5* hotel that came up was DoubleTree. The only rooms that they had available were smoking, which is worrisome. The fact that Hotwire and Expedia are partners / owned by the same company, does this information provide any additional information about this mysterious hotel?

Yes, I will have a car and from past experience, I have found that Fort Lee was cheaper than Secaucus. Even though Secaucus is closer to Midtown Manhattan, the Lincoln tunnel was usually congested with traffic even on weekends. The GW bridge on the other hand didn't seem to have the same traffic problems. This may have changed, I do not know.

I will also look into the areas that you mentioned. Thanks for all the help so far.

The Lincoln Tunnel vs. GW Bridge is a crapshoot... you never know how it's going to be :)

With a car you could also drive to Hoboken or Jersey City and take the PATH train in and not have to worry about traffic (although parking becomes an issue).

Ok, I used Hotwire and booked 3.5-star hotel in Secaucus - Meadowlands (Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business, High-Speed Internet, Golf Nearby). As expected, I got Sheraton Meadowlands. I used the HOTWIRE link from this site to book.

I'm fine with street parking in the city. We usually get in early in the morning on weekends and always find parking. I'm happy with what we got. The regular price is close to $200, about double of what we paid.

Thanks. I do have one more question.

If I were to drive from the hotel (Sheraton Meadowlands) to the Hoboken station, how frequently do the trains operate on Saturday and Sundays? Are these trains called the PATH trains?

Is there a bus that takes you into the city near the hotel?

Do note that Hoboken has "resident only" parking on one side of the street (these are green signs with white lettering... visitors can't park at all) and the other side is "resident only - all others 4 hour limit (these are white signs with green lettering... you can only park for 4 hours) If you violate either you could get "the boot" which will imobilize your car (i think when it's all said and done it's ~$175 to get the boot removed including ticket, fine, etc)

The hotel does have a shuttle to the train station (not PATH Train... NJ Transit train) as well as a nearby bus stop; however this is as per a set schedule and not 'on demand'. A good option is the North Bergen Park and Ride which runs frequently and has a place to park your car for a reasonable price.
