e30m20 Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Bid History:Aug 9$50, 3*, Venice (Venice)Aug 11$80, 4*, Venice (Venice)Aug 13$130, 3*, Venice (Venice), got a counteroffer of $276rebid adding Venice (Mestre), $135, Taxes:Taxes & Service Fees: US$56.30Notes: My very first win on PRICELINE. Saw the prices offered by Hotwire and jumped to $130 although in retrospect (based on other Venice Mestre posts) could probably of started lower. Read extensively over the postings on this site and was not fully comprehending the re-bidding process until now. I finally understand the idea of picking rebid zones that don't have the minimum star quality you desire as fillers or ways of adding extra bids prior to the 24 hour period. (Rome's a good example as only one zone has a 5 star hotel).I'm also starting to understand that in cities where there are multiple zones with the desired hotel rating (i.e. 4* in Paris), you can bid on each zone individually and rebid with a filler zone (in Paris' case Bastignolle).I think this site is a great idea and a great way to decode the mystery behind PRICELINE and HOTWIRE. I think the site admin is doing a great job and shows an amazing amount of patience with the idiots who just put up a post requesting a particularly rated hotel (Do your homework people!).Still have 4 more hotel stays to book in Europe for our honeymoon...and although the process is tiring, I'm hoping the payoff is worth it.Also of note, checked the Holiday Inn's website and their rate is 105 Euros, about $156 USD. Not too bad but I think I could have saved way more with a lower bid.
