GA Atlanta Marietta Conference Center and Resort

Stayed here for 1 night over the July 4th weekend. Got this on a bid of $58 and was expecting the Renaissance Waverly as it frequently appears and is a great value. While we were not unpleased with our stay at the Marietta Resort & Conference Center, it does not compare favorably with the Waverly. The common areas are 4* quality and include onsite golf course (looked good and appeared busy), tennis courts, and a nice pool area, along with a good restaurant. The rooms are another matter. We all thought they were, at best, a lower 3*. The mattresses and pillows were just cheap and not very comfortable. The bathroom was nothing special with a very shallow tub and the room and bath were quite small. We did have a nice view of the golf course and no maintenance issues. Nothing was dirty or broken, just appeared that they cut corners everywhere they could on the quality of the furnishings. However, if you are interested in a southern, small-town experience you might enjoy staying here as it is slightly off the beaten track, but only about 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta. The Resort is on an elevation that allows for a great view of the countryside. It is only about a mile to the Marietta Square where there are nice, small, local shops and restaurants and even a small museum dedicated to Gone With The Wind. There is also a historic home onsite at the resort that is used for parties and weddings. If you have Brunch on Sunday they were offering complimentary carriage rides. The Resort was not busy while we were there but didn't seem to have a lot of experience with Priceline as it took the desk a long time to find our reservation, but that just could have been his inexperience. All staff were pleasant but most times there was no one around at the front entrance for valet and baggage as there usually is for a 4*. There is plenty of free convenient parking in the front of the resort.
