ajb353 Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 Hello and thanks for having me be a part of this community. I have done a lot of reading on this forum and am now prepared to make my first post. My girlfriend and I are planning to go to NYC on August 20 to the 22. I have checked out Expedia/Orbitz/hostelworld/etc... and really haven't found a hotel that fits our budget/desires. I will be graduating from college in a few weeks and really don't have a lot of money to spend on a $300+ hotel room. I read the post on this forum about staying in Jersey City and taking the PATH into NYC, which seems like a viable option but still runs around $250. So, basically I have decided to bite the bullet and try my luck bidding on Priceline. Now I must decide whether to bid in NYC or Jersey City... and how much to bid... (Our budget is around $150 a night, but we'd prefer less). So here are my questions:We will be traveling from PA to NYC in a car and will need a place to park. Do most 3 or 4 star hotels include parking in NYC? What about Jersey City? We plan on seeing a Broadway Show, going out to a bar/club, seeing NYC sights, etc... What regions on priceline in NYC do you recommend. If we bid in NYC, what price should we start at? We're looking for a 3 or 4 star hotel. What's a good starting price to bid in Jersey City? Same thing for a 3 or 4 star hotel. Finally, as a side note if could recommend any interesting places to check out in NYC would be appreciated. Places like cool shops, clubs or bars that the average tourist wouldn't find, interesting locations... basically the non-touristy spots that you have to be an "insider" to know about. Thanks for the HelpAlec
thereuare Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!Do most 3 or 4 star hotels include parking in NYC? What about Jersey City?No and No. Parking in NYC will run you anywhere from an additional $25-$45/day depending if you use the hotel's facilities or find a garage on your own. In Jersey City the going rate is $15-$30/day... although there are other options for both which we can get into once you figure out where you're staying. If we bid in NYC, what price should we start at? If your budget is firm your options will either be to lower your star rating OR consider places outside of Jersey City/New York City where parking is free and you can take the bus into the city. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.
