Hello everyone,

A group of 4 ladies are doing the 39 mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in October and need a room the night before. We've busted our humps paying for shoes and raising at least $1800 each, so we're trying to save a bit on the hotel the night before. Avon has secured a "discounted" rate of $329 at the Sheraton Times Square, but they only offer 1 queen bed at that price. Can anyone help me figure out how to find the least expensive room...we just require it to be clean with 2 beds, in the area of Times Square? We're willing to walk a bit (after all, a couple more blocks is nothing when you're doing 39 miles in a weekend!)

Thank you!

Congrats on raising so much money for a wonderful cause, and welcome to the site! :)

Are you staying on 10/3 only?

Thank you!

Yes, we'll be sleeping in the Avon sponsored "Wellness Village" in 2 person tents with most of the walkers on the 4th. We'll be heading home after closing ceremonies on the 5th. We just need the one night because the walk starts at 6am on the 4th.

Thank you for walking for all of us (my wife has walked 3x and crewed 6x).

Where are opening ceremonies this year? (they weren't in Times Square in previous years... assuming they're still not there, where do you need to be to check-in in the morning... are there any activities the nite before that you want/need to be in Times Square or do you still need to go the day before to Brooklyn?)

You're welcome. In the last 3 months, I know of 3 different people diagnosed. We need to end this disease NOW! This is my first walk and I intend to do it as long as my feet will let me.

Anyway....Event Eve (check in) is at the Sheraton NY and Towers, in Times Square. They will be providing a shuttle Saturday morning to Opening Ceremonies at Pier 84 (Hudson River Park and West 44th). I guess we can stay either place. It never occurred to me to stay near Pier 84. Duh. I'm going to look into hotels in that area.

I can look further but let me know of this would work for your needs...

You could get a room with two beds at the Hyatt Regency on the Hudson in Jersey City for $180/nite. For check-in the nite before you can take the PATH train to/from the city. For the morning of you can take a taxi from Jersey City to the opening ceremonies for about $50 (i can call a local company and confirm the price if this scenario is an option for you)... you coudl take the train into the city and then take a taxi from there but i suspect you don't want to be carrying your gear at 5am onto a PATH train. So a nice hotel for the nite before (all rooms have a view of the Manhattan Skyline), for about $180/nite + $50 taxi ride = $230 (plus some tax) which is about $100 less than the Queen bedded room at the Sheraton.

Thoughts?

Thank you for your help, but the general consensus is that for an add'l $25, we might as well stay in the city and avoid the whole train/taxi thing.

I appreciate you looking into that for us! :)

Sorry for the late reply. I was on vacation last week.

We've got a 2 1/2 * $325 room at a hotel not affiliated with Avon. We were hoping to get a better deal than that. It will still come to about $100 each after taxes.

Thanks for your help!

What hotel?

Not sure, one of my teammates booked it. I can find out but I'm not thrilled about posting our definite plans on a public forum. Four women, staying alone in Manhattan....sounds like the makings of a made-for-tv movie!..... :)

Thank you for all of your help!

I don't currently see anything for $325/nite or less that will accomodate quad occupancy (unless you don't need a private bath and a shared bath would work for you (since you probably wont' be showing in the morning given the time you need to wake up to be at opening ceremonies).

I'd keep checking HOTWIRE to see if anything appears within your budget for quad occupancy.
