tyasa Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 Hi guys,im still a beginner in priceline...but can't help to notice the great deals everyone seem to get in their bidding...:)i'm planning to stay in NY for 3 nights, 11/6 - 11/9....is this too early to start bidding? my budget is around $175/night, what kind of * hotel can i get with that price...currently i'm booked in hotel 91, so unless i can get a better with upgrade location n *-wise, i still have this hotel as a backup...does anyone know if november month a peak time in new york? prices for hotel are extraordinarily high...can't seem to get a decent hotel for an average price anywhere...Thanx guys
AaronJB Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 Unfortunately, you cannot take other people's wins into account, as they are bidding for different dates than you are, and rates vary quite a bit depending on the date. Unfortunately, this is a VERY busy time for NYC and rates will be higher than normal. At $175, I think the chances of a 4* are unlikely, and a 3* is more likely - but still may be difficult at that price. Hotwire's got 4* and 3.5*'s at around $350.Things *may* change closer to the dates, but at least you do have a back-up for the time being. Additionally, it doesn't hurt to try bidding if you are ready to bid. You could bid for a 4* in Midtown for these dates for $175 - worst that happens is that it's simply not accepted and you're not charged. Best that happens is that you get a surprise win.If you do attempt to bid, it would be greatly appreciated if you could start by using the site's link to PRICELINE (click the PRICELINE), as it supports the site.
tyasa Posted August 5, 2008 Author Report Posted August 5, 2008 hey thanx for the reply...i just found out it's marathon week...and yeah i guess things are pretty busy...i have other cities hotel to bid for, and will definitely use those links when i do bid for the others...i'm not that hopeful anymore to get a good hotel in new york, but i will keep trying...will post something if something interesting came up :)
thereuare Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 I don't think Marathon weekend is affecting this stay too much as most runners (and those they came with) usually go home after the event... they're not really interested in walking around the city the following day(s) :)What is your rate at the back-up Hotel 91? tyasa Posted August 29, 2008 Author Report Posted August 29, 2008 hey sorry i was busy bidding for other cities...got the LV n LA settled....looking at SF right now...will post soon about my bid in that cityhotel 91 i got it for $189 before taxes....but it's in chinatown...being a chinese from asia, i dont really feel like staying in chinatown...i've been to ny...but my fiancee haven't....i was hoping something more central to mte/mtw/central park....anywhere safe and have an "american/new york" feel is good....:) i do realise that the subways do take us anywhere we want to go...so as long it's somewhere in manhattan and safe, it'll be fine...i dont mind a 4* near new jersey if it has subway access (not sure about this, never took a subway to new jersey or brooklyn)i'm worried about the shared bathroom coz we'r pretty picky on that...any advice how to avoid hotels with shared bathroom policy? maybe only bid for 4*? does 3* guarantee a private bathroom in some areas? <--- the real question that needs to be cleared for nyc bidders :) any help will be appreciated
