Hi! We are going to be in Vegas at the end of August and have our timeshare which is off the strip, but are coming in one day before our reservation so we need a cheap hotel room for just 8/23. We need to spend as little as possible but at the same time, we also want to experience a true Las Vegas hotel for the first time, since we always use our timeshare.

I'd be willing to settle for something off the strip and even a 1 or 2* as long as it's not scary and gross. We're really on a tight budget and would love to find something for under $50 a night. So, basically we need a miracle or at least some guidance!!

My dream hotel would be the Wynn and I might be willing to pay a little more for that, my boyfriend's first choice is Luxor but in a pyramid room only. Oh, and the Palms would be okay too. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

At the $50 level you're not going to get into the hotels you mention on a Saturday nite... nor do i think you're going to get the "vegas experience" you're looking for (based upon the hotels you mentioned)

I think the Westn, which is slightly off-strip is avialable for your dates for about $65 or so but they don't have a casino and also charge a Resort fee of ~$15/nite, so both of these may eliminate this possiblity. Based upon what you're looking for i think your optinos are about $100 for a 3* hotel with a good strip location, ~$60 for one of the North Strip casino hotels (in the Stratosphere area), or ~$85 for a 4* hotel Downtown.

Thanks for the info! We don't need a casino in the hotel, we actually don't do much gambling while we're there. I did some research myself last night and found a pyramid room at the Luxor for ~$135 with tax, so we're considering that.

I was thinking about bidding on Priceline but I don't think they make reservations for Luxor? I tried bidding on Priceline for airline tickets before and found the process to be more aggressive than I would like and more than a little random. (I bid $200, went up to $250, got rejected both times...tried again the next day with $177, got an offer for $214 that was gone within an hour, tried several more days in a row, got offered nothing less than $345) In any case, any thoughts on bidding for hotels as opposed to airfare?

Also, I've heard of great walk-up rates at some of the hotels day of...is this a well-known myth?

The Luxor has participated with PRICELINE in the past, but you can't bid on a specific hotel.

The PRICELINE's "Name Your Own Price" hotel product is much better than the airfare product... see all the hotel purchases on teh board every day and maybe a handful of airfare purchases each month. (NOTE: that PRICELINE is good for 'retail' airfare (where you don't bid) as they charge no booking fees :) )

Was true about 30 years ago but i don't think is currently the case.
