Welcome to BetterBidding!

I'll start by stating that i don't really like this area too much. I know some like it as an inexpensive alternative to Manhattan, but unless you need to be in this area, i'm not a fan.

With the above noted, is the purpose of this trip an alternative to staying in Manhattan? (and Manhattan zones would be acceptable as well?) If so, we can then use zones in Manhattan to give you more re-bidding opportunities.

Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

PS- if you decide to include the Sunday nite, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Sunday nites are usually pretty cheap in the city and you might be able to pick up a good rate, maybe under $150 or so at a 4* hotel for that nite (but not sure if you desire this and/or worth changing hotels)

Thanks. I am driving with family, heard about parking is expensive. We are going to use subway/bus while in town. Sounds like Flushing has good Chinese restaurant and subway link to Manhattan. Sunday is an option if the hotel is around $120.

Where are you driving in from?

As you mention "family" how many guests are staying in the hotel and how many rooms are you bidding on?

Is including Manhattan zones in your bidding acceptable? (if you should happen to 'steal' a hotel in Manhattan for $120 or less you could always park at a garage/lot outside of the city and take the subway or train into the city to your hotel)

You could take Amtrak from Chicago to NYC. Parts of the route are actually quite beautiful. I'm seeing 3* properties (for example, Holiday Inns) in Midtown at $270-300, so I'm thinking that you're probably looking at at least $150 for a 3* in one of the Midtown zones, if not more than that.

What's the reasonable price for Manhattan around Midtown?

I think it will be closer to $200 than $150. I wasn't suggesting that you try for this area, but if you won a hotel in Manhattan i think it would be much better than staying in Flushing. I would try to use the midtown Manhattan zones as "re-bid zones" so that you can bid again immediately and gradually work your way higher... but if you absoluately wouldn't want to stay in Manhattan then you shouldn't include it in your bidding.
