Priceline Hotel: 4* in times square 9/15-9/18

I have read the warning about limiting myself to times square. At this point, I am limiting myself to times square despite that because my mom - who we are taking on this trip - won't have it any other way.

Now that the pre-emptive strike is over -

Can anyone help me figure out what the going rates would be on these evenings? I would be willing to spend up to 300 ish. However, this is totally new to me - so if my thoughts on price are out of whack - please feel free to set me straight.

Thanks in advance for the awesome support this board provides.

285 is not good enough to get us this. So, I guess I am out of touch.

here is the deal. Mom booked us at the Hilton Garden in for 439 and I think that is nuts. I would like to be in an equally nice - if not nicer - hotel for less money. Maybe I should up my bid? Or maybe I should lower my star request?

Thoughts?

Well, what I would do is try to book a refundable rate (although, as I always say, check the fine print before you book about the cancel policy - fees, etc.) at a nicer hotel and keep trying to get an even better deal on Priceline.

If you use the coupon code 7DAYSALE2 on Orbitz, you can get 20% off a 2 bed room at the Hotel Mela in Times Square. $472.66 - 20% = about $378. Or a superior room @ the Millennium Broadway for $500 a night - 20% = $400 per night.

If any of these ideas sound good, please use the site's link to Orbitz.com (click the Orbitz.com) to start your purchase.

There are better deals in other parts of Midtown - you can get the Fitzpatrick Manhattan for $409 or the Fitzpatrick Grand Central for $429 (both in MTEast), but if you have to stay in Times Square, the above two seemed like a couple of the better choices that the coupon actually worked on.

I am limiting myself to times square... because my mom - who we are taking on this trip - won't have it any other way
Is your mom familiar with NYC? What is the reasoning behind her wanting to only stay in Times Square?

With six weeks to go before your stay i wouldn't be chasing this just yet. You have a back-up at the Hilton Garden Inn so you know you have a place to sleep (although there are nicer properties elsewhere in the city for similar/less amount).

Lastly, it sounds as if there will be more than two people on this trip... how many people will there be and how many rooms are you bidding for?

It is my sister, mom, and I. We are bidding on one room with two queen beds. My mom has been to NY several times. I have been once and stayed in the W (work function and free - best deal around - right?). My sister hasn't been. It is a retirement present for my mom and she has asked if she can stay in times square. I have stayed there and thought it was great. My sister has never been - so we are planning to stay in TS to appease mom, make sis think "WOW" and be somewhere I am familar and comfortable with.

I am open to hearing about alternatives, but not being THAT familiar with the area (only been once after all) I don't know where would be a good alternative. Any alternatives would have to be very close to TS so as to make it fly with mom and keep me in my comfort zone (relatively speaking).

I sure appreciate all the help.

We are bidding on one room with two queen beds

Priceline.line only guarantees double occupancy, so you're not bidding on a room with two queen beds, you're bidding on a room which is only guaranteed for double occupancy. You may get a room which can accomodate all three of you, but you may also get a hotel with only one bed in the room (and no room for a rollaway). With notoriously small rooms, and a high proportion of rooms with only one bed, it's often considered risky to use PRICELINE for more than double occupancy in NYC (in family oriented areas, such as Orlando/Disneyworld, the risk is considered much less)

If you're not willing to accept this risk then HOTWIRE can be an option. It usually cost a little more than PRICELINE, but allows you to search for up to quad occupancy.
