aaronmidnight Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 Only bid 4*s this time.Started at $125 in St. Germain zone.Raised to $135 and added Opera Quarter East. Priceline counter offered $170-something, which would have been around $200 with tax. I declined the counteroffer.Lowered to $126 and added Bercy / Bastille.Raised to $138 and added free rebid zone (Batignolles). Finally raised to $140 and added Opera Quarter West.Won Concorde La Fayette at $140 ($158.38 including taxes and fees). It seems I saved about 35% off the lowest price on the hotel's website ($242 including VAT, nonrefundable).Reasonably pleased with this win. I think it's a decent price for a Paris 4* and location is not too bad. I do wonder if I could have gotten something a bit cheaper ($20 less?) if I went out to La Defense zone, but I guess it's better to be slightly more central.I finally remembered to use the PRICELINE link from Better Bidding! Thanks to everyone for posting their wins. Hopes this helps other bidders make informed decisions...
thereuare Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 Congratulations on your win!Paris is expensive so this does look like a nice deal. However, you could bid it a bit more systemactially in the future. Assuming there were four zones you were interested in and only Batignolles as a re-bid zone, you could have bid as follows:Zone1 You wantedAdd Batignolles (close browser)Zone2 You WantedAdd Batignolles (close browser)Zone3 You WantedAdd Batignolles (close browser)Zone4 You WantedAdd Batignolles (close browser)Zone1 and Zone2 You WantedAdd Batignolles (close browser)Zone3 and Zone4 You WantedAdd Batignolles (close browser)... and so-on and so-onFeel free to ask for help before your next hotel stay. Thanks for sharing your win with the board and for using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
aaronmidnight Posted August 2, 2008 Author Report Posted August 2, 2008 Thanks for the congrats.Totally agree on the fact that I was not bidding as methodically or systematically as I could have.Guess I was just being a bit impatient...Thanks for the advice. Will try to implement next time!Aaron
tieum Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 Congrats. I puts it around 100 euros which is a very good deal for those kind of hotels in Paris.
