bubble gum Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 My husband and I will be in San Diego from 8/17-8/21/08. I would really like to stay in the mission bay area, and particularly like the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay. Do you think its possible for me to get that hotel for under $135 a night? If so, what bidding strategy would you suggest? If you think thats unlikely, I would be interested in a different 4* hotel/resort for up to $125 or a 3* for up to $100. I really want to stick to the mission bay area. Thanks so much for your help- this forum is great!! (I will be telling my friends about it!!)
thereuare Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! With PRICELINE there is no way to target, or avoid, a specific property... you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone that you bid at the minimum star level you select. If you are trying to target a specific property HOTWIRE can be a better option as you can often have a good guess as to which property you may receive based upon the star rating and amenties shown. However, HOTWIRE is usually a little more expensive that PRICELINE.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. bubble gum Posted August 1, 2008 Author Report Posted August 1, 2008 Thanks for your reply. Although I do prefer the Hyatt Regency, I am aware that I cannot target that hotel speficially with priceline, and I will be happy with any of the 4* hotels in that area. Thanks so much for your help.
thereuare Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 At the 4* level you have 10 re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Coastal...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. bubble gum Posted August 1, 2008 Author Report Posted August 1, 2008 Thanks so much for your help. I read the re-bidding explanation, but I just want to clarify. When you say there are 10 re-bid zones for 4* san diego coastal, you mean that there are 10 areas that do not have a 4* hotel, right? Also, I've noticed that on other posts you've told people to close their browser and reopen with your PRICELINE link after a certain amount of bids- do I need to do this? Of course I'd be glad to use your link, I just want to clarify if its necessary to change browsers aftre a cretain amount of bids. Thanks.
thereuare Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 When you say there are 10 re-bid zones for 4* san diego coastal, you mean that there are 10 areas that do not have a 4* hotel, right?Yes, but with one caveat...A re-bid zones isn't just one which doesn't contain the star level you're bidding... but also doesn't contain any zones higher than the star level you're bidding. So if you're trying for a 4* hotel, it's not enough for the zone to not contain a 4* property... but it also must not contain Resort or 5* properties (bothf of which are higher rated than 4 star properties)There is no need for you to close the browser using the above strategy, you have enough re-bid zones so that it's not necessary. Thanks in advance for using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Good luck! bubble gum Posted August 4, 2008 Author Report Posted August 4, 2008 Hi. I tried bidding on 3 separate nights using the strategy you explained to me and have not won yet. Any idea how much higher I would have to bid in order to get a 4* in san diego coastal area for 8/17-8/21? The highest I have bid so far is $125. Thank you!
thereuare Posted August 4, 2008 Report Posted August 4, 2008 Hard to say, but rates are not that high (although the Hilton San Diego Resort is sold-out for two of your nites and rates there are very high for the other two nites)It may just take another $5 and even if your budget is firm i would certainly try $130 before giving up hope as it has take that much previously (when $125 had been rejected)... but i think $140-$165 would increase your chances dramatically. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. If you're willing to revise your maximum bid let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.
