StevenO Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 Getting ready to bid for hotel 8/9-8/12 in New York for a trip with my 12 year old daughter. Are there any zones that I would be better off avoiding from a safety/convenience standpoint? It's been 10 years since I've been to NY and it was usually on business. Any input would be appreciated.
aaronmidnight Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 I've lived in NY for around 8 years. From a safety perspective, I would feel comfortable bidding for friends and family anywhere in Manhattan. I'd steer clear of Brooklyn and Long Island City both from a safety and convenience standpoint. There are many parts of Brooklyn and Queens that are just fine (I actually live in Brooklyn now), but it's much easier to get lost in both boroughs and just more of a hassle than you'll want to deal with as a tourist. You might also want to avoid the Madison Square Garden zone which can be sketchy/rowdy, especially at night and/or around a game.Of course, you should always exercise a bit of caution in NYC. If you wander around with your wallet in your back pocket and your face buried in a tour book, you're probably asking to have something stolen. But with a modicum of street smarts, I'm sure you'll have a safe and fun trip to our fair city. Enjoy your travels!
